2010 NHL Entry Draft, Round 1: Penguins select Beau Bennett at #20

Jun 25, 2010, 9:57 PM EDT

Round 1 – 20th overall

Pittsburgh Penguins – Beau Bennett

6′ 0″, 173 – Right Wing, Pintincton

Bennett was shooting up draft boards the past few months, and some thought they would sneak into the first round. I doubt many though he’d go at #20, but the Penguins certainly feel confident that this prep school winger has what it takes to develop into the sniper he has the potential to be.

What is interesting is to see that Emerson Etem is still available, and Bennett was the first Californian to be picked.

I’m sure Beau Bennett will turn out to be a great winger and I questioned why the Pens didn’t pick up Tinordi (he’d fill the gap lost by Hall Gill at 6″5′) and the Pens low in depth in the “d” department. It’s starting to make sense with Gonchar wanting a three yr deal (the Penguins are only willing to give him 2) and Shero trading the 3rd round pick to Philly for the rights to Hamhuis. I hate to say it but it looks like the Pens might lose Gonchar.
