It’s a three-peat for Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk as he wins his third straight Frank J. Selke trophy as the league’s best defensive forward. Most folks anticipated this year’s vote to be a tight one as Vancouver’s Ryan Kesler and Pittsburgh’s Jordan Staal have emerged as other great shut down forwards. The vote would reflect just how close things have gotten.

        20.        Marian Hossa, CHI        22        (0-1-2-1-2)

It was only 33 points separating Datsyuk from Kesler and just one first place vote helping make the difference. Where some of those first place votes is interesting to take note of here as Datsyuk’s teammate Henrik Zetterberg, Flyers center Mike Richards and the St. Louis Blues’ Jay McClement each took two of them. Zetterberg and Richards make sense but either it’s my ignorance of the Blues (most likely) or voting wackiness that leads to McClement getting two first place votes.  Perhaps the skills defensive forwards exhibit aren’t lauded enough.

Yeah, that works, we’re not paying close enough attention to things. Ignorance prevails!
