I am acutally surprised that the voting was that close and really surprised that crosby was that far behind in third. Hendin wins this award solely on the fact that he had the most improved season, OV and Crosby get overlooked because we unfairly expect them to put up numbers like they did.
Karl Malone and Charles Barkley won MVP during the years of MJ's 2 Three-Peats. Were they really more valuable to their team that year? No they just got used the numbers MJ put up.
Bottom line if anyone is starting a franchise, OV and Crosby are the clear top 2, thus the most valuable. Where does Hendin fall in this convo, is he even top 10? If the Ted Lindsay award votes were published, they would give you a clear view of who the players, who are the most qualified to judge, feel is the true MVP. and you can bet it was only a two man race.
