Why would anyone with a hint of a brain make that deal and give up the #1 pick for a Franchise altering player? It not only defies logic on your part, but really shows that you are such a huge B's fan that you're not thinking clearly. I challenge you to find anyone from the Edmonton side or any other Franchise that would make that deal. It's ridiculous.

I think that this would be a crazy deal! The only way that I would move Savard, would be if it were to send him to Edmonton as the center that they need, with Blake wheeler, and you can even have dennis wideman too!! In return we would then receive their first pick. that would set up the Bruins with Hall & Seguin! Then take the 15th pick, and ship Ryder & Chara to Florida or Columbus and get their #3 or 4 respectively pick, and take Fowler. That still leaves you strong with Sedienberg-Boychuk-stuart-Ference-Fowler-Hunwick & McQuaid as the 7th rotating Defenseman! Now that would be the deals to make!! (Cause Chara is Terrible)!!!!!

Re denials of trade rumors by GMs:
Yes, but see Dean Lombardi/Justin Williams to LA rumors. Total denial followed a day later by the actual trade as rumored (plus an added 2nd round pick Lombardi had to throw in to keep the deal alive after the press got wind of it). Lombardi immediately apologized to Rich Hammond for lying to him, but it was completely understandable, in my opinion. I don't even understand why reporters ask these questions and expect reality-based answers. The whole enterprise depends on secrecy. If you air a proposed trade out in the press, it changes the circumstances of the trade.
The unfortunately tricky side-effect of this is that knowing this (GMs will deny) is what keeps a lot of totally bogus rumors alive.
Since Brandon reported this as a rumor and advised specifically that it be regarded as a rumor, it ought to be treated as a rumor. That is to say, we get to mull it over and decide for ourselves if it makes sense, how it might make sense even if it doesn't at first, and how it would change things if it were to come to pass.
Fun for all.

Aaron Portzline from the Columbus Dispatch says he was told there are no discussions:
-- Don't believe the "rumors" of a blockbuster with Boston. Howson, like most GMs, can't be expected to respond to every hairbrained idea, but The Dispatch has been told that such a trade has never been discussed by the two clubs. But, really, people. Savard has a no-trade clause. He makes $7 million per season for the next few seasons after re-upping with Boston just last season. The deal would have the Blue Jackets adding $9 million in payroll, which puts them at the salary cap.
