Any talk of “respect” for the Flyers proves you know NOTHING about hockey – The NHL is no the only hockey game in town unless you live in a toilet like Philadelphia. Flyers and their fans have always been an embarrassment to hockey and the NHL. Trash loves trash – not a new story.

Ok. Sure enough, Pronger should spend more time in the box….and maybe (though i dont really know) the flyers should not be spending so much time in their teamates wives boxes. That said, hats off to the flyers. In the toughest TEAM sport in existence, they gave everything they had. You have to respect that no matter what you think of Pronger (that Mexi-Talian guy is the REAL asshole on that team, by the way).
However, the Flyers were simply outmatched. The only reasonj it wasnt over in 5 is because the Hawks went light for a night, thinking they might get by with it again (right Sharks? Gotta love easy lays!!!). They were wrong and they learned the lesson (im hoping they wont forget it soon).
Anyway, I loved every minute of the finals and feel privileged to be able to appreciate the game and the athletes for everything they give to it.
PS-Soccer (even world cup) in Donkey.

Funny, but all Chris Pronger does is win. Every team he goes to becomes instant contenders with his presence on the ice, or did we forget the Edmonton Oilers. Pronger is top 5 defensemen in the game and anyone saying otherwise is just plain biased. Kasparaitis, Barnaby, Avery, Domi….all guys we love to hate, but if they were on our team we’d cheer the hell outta them. Add Chris Pronger to this list. I hated Pronger since his Blues days, but as soon as my Flyers picked him up, I was happy as hell. As for the comments earlier about the Flyers wives and all that b.s., you just show how low class you are. Your team wins the cup, deservedly so, and you still dwell on negatives. Enjoy your win, be happy, and worry about defending it.

Read again Melba – I did not say best of all time either. I said “Pronger does not measure up” and I made reference to talented defensemen (yes they also make “the list”)and one of them is still playing. To make it simpler (for you) talented means they are not goons. Talented also means they can skate. Yes, Pronger has skates on his feet but…
BTW, we keep getting saddled with a goon here in Detroit-I am not really a Blackhawks fan. His name is Bertuzzi and we hate him here in Detroit, Michigan. Waste of space and money and if that cowardly, no talent bum Pronger showed up here this town would revolt.

I like how all the Chicago fans are saying Pronger’s an a-hole and that the Flyers suck. The Flyers had to win a shootout to go to the playoffs. Then they kicked the Devils @ss. They came back from 3-0 down, and that should be enough, right. But no, we have to beat the Canadiens too. And then we get wrecked because the Blackhawks have Niemi. Congrats Niemi. You deserved the MVP award.
Oh and Philadelphia’s sports teams (besides the 76ers, but they had their moments with AI and most likely soon Evan Turner) are always going to the playoffs. When is the last time the cubs have gone to the world series????

Um, Vern, Pronger has a ring too. Duh. And Top Shelf? The writer didn’t say best all time, best in the NHL. You can bitch and moan about Pronger all you want but if you could fit him under your cap and he showed even a remote interest in playing in Chicago, you can bet your tighty whities that rocky wirtz would bend over BACKWARDS to sign him. and guess what? you’d love him. you’d cheer him on. you would celebrate every single solitary move he makes on the ice, and you would do it with a big smile on your face. If you didn’t you’d be a fool.
Congrats to the Hawks and their non-bandwagon, non-hockey-ignorant fans. They were far superior to my Flyers and I can’t be disappointed that we lost to the (clearly) better team.

Tom, you have a point, that is, if you don’t have a single athletic bone in your body.
Like most hockey players, I excelled at several sports and I chose to concentrate on hockey because it was THE MOST EXCITING AND, BY FAR, THE MOST CHALLENGING. Some of the games you mentioned are good for recreation but they are not for world class athletes.

Brandon Worley, are you the substitute hockey writer? Did you confuse air hockey with ice hockey??
Let me mention a few names: Bobby Orr, Nick Lidstrom, Ray Bourque, Larry Robinson, Kevin Coffee. These are real defensemen. Pronger does not measure up. Just because he ‘gets away’ with being dirty does not mean he is good. Are athletes that get away with ‘doping’ good? Great?

As far as his comments go, Burish would only have the nerve to say it when Pronger was no where around and he was in the safety of his press box and then in front of the cameras. Moron, the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005, and the Chicago Bears at least got to the Superbowl a few years back. Hockey is a “minor” sport? I’m sure your sport is badminton where you and the rest of the eunuchs have lots of fun jumping up with glee and clapping after every point.

It has been funny to watch Chicago make fools of themselves over winning the championship in the most minor of the major sports. Being in Chicago yesterday, I watched the drunk, lame, lazy and unemployed pour into the streets to celebrate, what…a hockey championship. You can see how starved this city of losers is for any kind of championship. Let us know Chicago when you win a major title in football or baseball. The rest of us might care.
