Chris Pronger responds to Burish's comments

Jun 11, 2010, 9:30 PM EDT

Adam Burish made a bit of stir yesterday when video was circulated of
him stating after the Hawks’ win that he thought Chris Pronger was “the
biggest idiot in the league” and that he’d punch him in the face if he
saw him again.

The immediate response was one of incredulity, as most couldn’t
believe someone like Burish would call out a player like Pronger like
that, especially after he had just won the Stanley — from the press
box. Burish was certainly effective, at times, but when the Blackhawks
really started to roll he couldn’t find his way onto the ice. Meanwhile,
Pronger was getting nearly 30 minutes of ice time a game while
cementing his place in the NHL as one of the greatest defensemen of the
modern era.

Disagree with his tactics, claim you hate how he seems to get away
with so much, but the fact remains that Chris Pronger is still one of
the best in the NHL. Burish may have made himself a bit of a cult hero
for speaking his mind, but in the end it was a bit classless. Ok, it was
definitely classless.

Today, Pronger

Pronger asked, “Did he play?” and said
he didn’t comment on players who want 5 minutes of fame.

Pronger was told that Burish said he wanted to punch him next time they
saw each other, Pronger cracked: “Where’s that? In the minors?”

about the best response you could expect.

Pronger lost, and actually got face raped by Big Buff.
The Hawks celebrate victory, the Flyers go home and hope Jeff Carter does not bust a nut in Jeff Hartnell’s wife’s face. Great team Flyers, your wives drain your teammates johnson’s. Your a class team, lead by a le douche Pronger and a coach who is mentally not all there. Bravo!!!
How sweet the Cup is in CHITOWN!!!!!!!!

  2. Burass - Jun 11, 2010 at 10:58 PM

Burish’s comments would carry some weight if he actually contributed to the Blackhawks success. Congratulations to Blackhawks and their fans they deserved this. They doesn’t take away from the fact that Burish is an a$$.

  3. Rob - Jun 12, 2010 at 5:05 AM

Pronger? I’d love to kick your @$$. All I’d need is 5 minutes in a parking lot with you. You are lucky the Flyers didn’t play the Penguins during the play-offs. We would have mopped the ice with your sorry behind.

  4. Rob smells funny - Jun 12, 2010 at 8:25 AM

Rob, kidding right? sounds like you want those five minutes for something else. i did not realize you transgender folks liked hockey.

  5. jef is a loser - Jun 12, 2010 at 8:29 AM

jef, typical chicago fan. on the bandwagon. please go back to playing your x-box in your parents basement. sounds like you have alot of sexual frustration going on. go out and try and find a girl (or whatever you like) there chief.

  6. Tom - Jun 12, 2010 at 10:25 AM

It has been funny to watch Chicago make fools of themselves over winning the championship in the most minor of the major sports. Being in Chicago yesterday, I watched the drunk, lame, lazy and unemployed pour into the streets to celebrate, what…a hockey championship. You can see how starved this city of losers is for any kind of championship. Let us know Chicago when you win a major title in football or baseball. The rest of us might care.

  7. Tito - Jun 12, 2010 at 10:33 AM

Umm Tom, the Sox just won the World Series in 05. The Bulls, I believe won a few titles in the 90’s. Yeah, I agree, it is really dumb for a city to celebrate one of its teams winning a championship in one of the 4 major sports. Lighten up buddy.

  8. Daniel Giannini - Jun 12, 2010 at 12:33 PM

Moron, the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005, and the Chicago Bears at least got to the Superbowl a few years back. Hockey is a “minor” sport? I’m sure your sport is badminton where you and the rest of the eunuchs have lots of fun jumping up with glee and clapping after every point.
Anyway as a Chicago Blackhawks fan I am surprised Burish said what he supposedly said, if he did say it.

  9. Real fan - Jun 12, 2010 at 1:59 PM

@ Daniel, its not something that he supposedly said, there are clips of it all over the internet including this site. As far as his comments go, Burish would only have the nerve to say it when Pronger was no where around and he was in the safety of his press box and then in front of the cameras. That little pansy will crap his pants the next time he encounters Prongs, if he ever gets on the ice, and I’m sure Pronger would welcome any challenge from the 13th forward. What a loser

  10. TopShelf - Jun 12, 2010 at 2:20 PM

Brandon Worley, are you the substitute hockey writer? Did you confuse air hockey with ice hockey??
Let me mention a few names: Bobby Orr, Nick Lidstrom, Ray Bourque, Larry Robinson, Kevin Coffee. These are real defensemen. Pronger does not measure up. Just because he ‘gets away’ with being dirty does not mean he is good. Are athletes that get away with ‘doping’ good? Great?
Trash is trash and Philly is Philly. WAY TO GO HAWKS!

  11. TopShelf - Jun 12, 2010 at 2:31 PM

Tom, you have a point, that is, if you don’t have a single athletic bone in your body.
Like most hockey players, I excelled at several sports and I chose to concentrate on hockey because it was THE MOST EXCITING AND, BY FAR, THE MOST CHALLENGING. Some of the games you mentioned are good for recreation but they are not for world class athletes.

  12. Vernweaver - Jun 12, 2010 at 4:40 PM

You can carve Burish all you want, and Pronger can make jokes about the minors all he wants. All that matters is Burish has a ring, and nothin can change that no matter what happens now.

  13. melbamom - Jun 12, 2010 at 7:15 PM

Um, Vern, Pronger has a ring too. Duh. And Top Shelf? The writer didn’t say best all time, best in the NHL. You can bitch and moan about Pronger all you want but if you could fit him under your cap and he showed even a remote interest in playing in Chicago, you can bet your tighty whities that rocky wirtz would bend over BACKWARDS to sign him. and guess what? you’d love him. you’d cheer him on. you would celebrate every single solitary move he makes on the ice, and you would do it with a big smile on your face. If you didn’t you’d be a fool.
Congrats to the Hawks and their non-bandwagon, non-hockey-ignorant fans. They were far superior to my Flyers and I can’t be disappointed that we lost to the (clearly) better team.

  14. NoNeed4BandWagon Jumpers - Jun 12, 2010 at 8:49 PM

Kevin Coffee ?? Who did he play for ?

  15. A Shin - Jun 12, 2010 at 9:29 PM

I like how all the Chicago fans are saying Pronger’s an a-hole and that the Flyers suck. The Flyers had to win a shootout to go to the playoffs. Then they kicked the Devils @ss. They came back from 3-0 down, and that should be enough, right. But no, we have to beat the Canadiens too. And then we get wrecked because the Blackhawks have Niemi. Congrats Niemi. You deserved the MVP award.
Oh and Philadelphia’s sports teams (besides the 76ers, but they had their moments with AI and most likely soon Evan Turner) are always going to the playoffs. When is the last time the cubs have gone to the world series????

  16. TopShelf - Jun 12, 2010 at 11:02 PM

You are right – Freudian lapse of some kind? Paul Coffey.

  17. TopShelf - Jun 12, 2010 at 11:18 PM

Read again Melba – I did not say best of all time either. I said “Pronger does not measure up” and I made reference to talented defensemen (yes they also make “the list”)and one of them is still playing. To make it simpler (for you) talented means they are not goons. Talented also means they can skate. Yes, Pronger has skates on his feet but…
BTW, we keep getting saddled with a goon here in Detroit-I am not really a Blackhawks fan. His name is Bertuzzi and we hate him here in Detroit, Michigan. Waste of space and money and if that cowardly, no talent bum Pronger showed up here this town would revolt.
Happy to clear things up for you and educate you about the game of hockey.

  18. Brian - Jun 13, 2010 at 1:55 AM

Funny, but all Chris Pronger does is win. Every team he goes to becomes instant contenders with his presence on the ice, or did we forget the Edmonton Oilers. Pronger is top 5 defensemen in the game and anyone saying otherwise is just plain biased. Kasparaitis, Barnaby, Avery, Domi….all guys we love to hate, but if they were on our team we’d cheer the hell outta them. Add Chris Pronger to this list. I hated Pronger since his Blues days, but as soon as my Flyers picked him up, I was happy as hell. As for the comments earlier about the Flyers wives and all that b.s., you just show how low class you are. Your team wins the cup, deservedly so, and you still dwell on negatives. Enjoy your win, be happy, and worry about defending it.

  19. Steven Gary - Jun 14, 2010 at 12:18 AM

Ok. Sure enough, Pronger should spend more time in the box….and maybe (though i dont really know) the flyers should not be spending so much time in their teamates wives boxes. That said, hats off to the flyers. In the toughest TEAM sport in existence, they gave everything they had. You have to respect that no matter what you think of Pronger (that Mexi-Talian guy is the REAL asshole on that team, by the way).
However, the Flyers were simply outmatched. The only reasonj it wasnt over in 5 is because the Hawks went light for a night, thinking they might get by with it again (right Sharks? Gotta love easy lays!!!). They were wrong and they learned the lesson (im hoping they wont forget it soon).
Anyway, I loved every minute of the finals and feel privileged to be able to appreciate the game and the athletes for everything they give to it.
PS-Soccer (even world cup) in Donkey.

  20. TopShelf - Jun 14, 2010 at 12:52 AM

Any talk of “respect” for the Flyers proves you know NOTHING about hockey – The NHL is no the only hockey game in town unless you live in a toilet like Philadelphia. Flyers and their fans have always been an embarrassment to hockey and the NHL. Trash loves trash – not a new story.

  21. Little Tommy - Jun 14, 2010 at 6:02 AM

Pronger’s a moron! He can spend the whole offseason looking for pucks now. GO BLACKHAWKS.

  22. Steam - Jun 14, 2010 at 7:31 AM

tom bud, u r nothin but a self rightous, put every one down asshole. & hockey is the best sport in NA. if canada had the population of the usa we’d put your passion 4 football 2 shame. in fact fuck the populations our 30+ million r way more passionate 4 hockey than your 200+ million r 4 football. Congrats Blackhawks, Flyers dont deserve the cup.
