Video – Adam Burish: "Chris Pronger is the biggest idiot in the league."

Jun 10, 2010, 1:45 PM EDT

My initial thoughts on this?

This is just Adam Burish being himself, in a state of joy and for some reason uncontrolled honesty. What’s interesting about Burish calling out Pronger like this is that while Pronger was playing near 30 minutes a night, he was seeing very limited playing time and was scratched more often than not.

That being said, it’s incredibly entertaining but in the end a bit classless. This wasn’t the moment or the time to rub your opponent’s face in the mud, as you skate around their home arena with the Stanley Cup lifted over your head. Sure, the Hawks weren’t happy with how Pronger played but sometimes you just have to take the high road.

I’m sure the Hawks PR staff nearly had an aneurysm when they heard about this, but this is what is so great about hockey. Now we’ll have months of waiting to see what will happen when Burish faces Pronger again on the ice. That is, of course, if Burish is active for that game.

Meanwhile, expect Pronger to just look annoyed and not acknowledge the question if asked about it.

    Dear Cliff,
You are obviously from Philly, because you fail to comprehend the whole comment by Burish. He said that Pronger is a complete tool that nearly all fans of the NHL despise. That is a fact. Burish said nothing about his skills. He didn’t say he was better than Pronger. In fact, I bet if you asked him, he would say he is not as good. But one thing, is that Burish has the stones to speak up and tell the truth. That is that everyone hates Pronger because he is an ass and a hack. How about Pronger intentionally stomping on Vancouver’s Kesler when Kesler was laying on the ice? Talk about dirty. My teammate lost half a finger that way. But you’re from Philly, so I suppose you call that type of dirty play “gamesmanship”. Face it. Pronger is a dirty hack. When the refs open their eyes and start calling penalties on his dirty cr@p, Pronger cannot match up. Lately it seems his contribution is to get penalized and allow his team to be scored on while he sits in the box. If he had to play clean, he could not exist in the NHL.
But I digress. Burish said nothing about being good or bad. He just said that Pronger is a d!ckhead that is a cancer on hockey. Sure, his fans like him, but that’s like crackheads who like their dealer. Wake up. Burish said the right thing and should be applauded, regardless of the fact that he is not as good a skater as Pronger. And in the end, Burish lifts the Cup! Everything else, doesn’t really matter, does it?

  2. Chicago is the best city in the world!!! - Jun 11, 2010 at 1:01 AM

Oh this is GREAT! Listen to all the sad sad fans trying to rationalize keeping around their sad sad team…
I’m going to a Stanley Cup Championship ticker tape parade tomorrow!!!! HAWKS WIN HAWKS WIN HAWKS WIN
Ahaha Oh yeah, JR really showed us which city he preferred last night, didn’t he? Too bad, even your old players dissing you!
    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. RealHockeyFan - Jun 11, 2010 at 2:44 AM

Philly fans booed Toews when he accepted the Conn Smythe, as well as booed the Hawks after they received the Cup. Talk about classless. Pathetic. Burish didn’t need to say that, but Pronger was such a whiner all series he deserves it. Rarely was Pronger not on the ear of one of the linesman after every whistle. No class Philly, grow up. Its the Stanley Cup, respect the winner. We did it in 92′ when the Pens whipped us. Way to go Hawks!

  4. RealHockeyFan - Jun 11, 2010 at 2:59 AM

We’ve got some real sharpies here on this blog. We all know people boo Bettman, but they don’t do it after the team accepts the trophy. Thats when it becomes classless. Clearly the more talented team won this year. Why is it at Flyer games when someone yells at a hawks fan they need to have 20 people behind them before they make the comment? Saw this firsthand, weak. Feel dumb for even replying to this crap, but it was just so pathetic. I would take Briere any day, but you can keep the balance of that team. Tell Richards to take off the shield if he wants to throw around cheap shots like that. Liked him in the Olympics, but he lost all cred in this series regardless of his #’s.

  5. RealHockeyFan - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:05 AM

    That was a dud Speedracer29.

  6. Kevin - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:26 AM

Let’ get one thing straight… Burish didn’t win the Stanley Cup. He was on the TEAM that won it. He’s like John Sally on all those Lakers teams- except Sally is funny and lovable, and laughs about his good fortune. This guy is a dumb goon, who can’t keep his mouth shut. Pretty sad that when you win the ultimate prize all you can say is you hate a guy on the other team. I bet ESPN won’t be making a commercial with this quote next year. Also, Philly fans booed the commish, they actually respectfully cheered the Hawks. Fact is, hockey is a tough sport, it requires guts, heart, and a toughness unlike any other sport. In my opinon, Pronger shows all of them, this guy does not. And I am sure we can name some guys on both teams that aren’t far behind.

  7. Stanley - Jun 11, 2010 at 8:13 AM

Hilarious. Why not answer truthfully? Like Pronger is above a comment like this? He’s a first class azzhole.

  8. Baseball town USA - Jun 11, 2010 at 8:23 AM

We will enjoy the offseason in Philly. Let’s see how your summer goes with the Cubs. Good luck with that!

  9. Bud - Jun 11, 2010 at 9:12 AM

As a fan of hockey period I must say that the Hawks did win the cup with class and deserved it but your fans maybe not so much after reading some of these posts. To even acknowledge Burish is a waste of time, the best player in his family is his sister who plays for the U of Wisconsin. Pronger may be many things but as an earlier post said he caused the Hawks to completely change their lines in this series, Burish played how many minutes total????? Please, he is a putz who is very fortunate to play or at least practice with a very talented and deserving Championship Hawks team. Enjoy your parade today, you earned it and if all goes well maybe Burish will fall off of one of the floats/trucks, it would be the most action he has seen in the last two weeks. As far as the punch Pronger comment,I am pretty sure his sister is also the toughest player in the family as well. CONGRATS HAWKS,WELL DONE!!

  10. Pronger Donger - Jun 11, 2010 at 9:51 AM

I have been a huge hockey fan for a long time. This might be the funniest thing I have ever seen. Regardless of whether it is true or not. Hockey needs more honest funny guys…too many serious guys with their brows furrowed. Pronger is awesome, this was his best post season series since the Oilers went to seven with Carolina, however, he is a tool and for as great as he was in the first 4 games of this series, he blew it in the last 2. Thats what you get with Pronger. BTW, anyone who cares, yeah, Ben Eager is no 1st line forward and may never be anything more that an annoyance in the NHL…but he absolutely SNIPED Leighton. That was just stupid. Leighton will be seeing that shot in his sleep. For years. нет так нет.

  11. RepsondingtoIdiot - Jun 11, 2010 at 10:17 AM

Are you really this stupid or just don’t watch much hockey? The fans were BOOING Bettman. It’s been done in every stadium that the little Weasel presents the Cup for years.
But I guess a real hockey fan (not someone who suddenly likes his team because they’re good) would know this.

I’m a Flyers fan through and through and I was praying that Chicago would be applauded and congratulated for their victory. As much as I love the Flyers, the best team truly did win. I’m sorry the majority of the fans did that. I was at the game and I clapped really loud hoping Chicago knew that not all Philly fans are bad. Flyers fans love their team.

  14. Congrats to Hawks - Jun 11, 2010 at 11:30 AM

Congrats to the Hawks organization they deserved it. Rocky Wirtz is a class guy trying to undo all the crap his father did. Congrats to the CLASSY Hawks fans out there since I know there are a lot because I have met them, and had great hockey conversations with them! The Hawks had a great season and earned their championship. And FYI, I was a huge Hawks fan in the days of JR and Amonte, etc… which I’m sure most of you fans won’t remember. But I have always loved the hawks, and their sweater is one of the coolest in all of sports. I wanted this series for 15 years and thoroughly enjoyed watching two gritty teams battle it out. It was a fun series to watch and neither team needs to hang their head. Best finals in 30 years according to TV ratings so say what you like it was great for the sport. Congrats to the Hawks, you earned it.
As for Pronger, he is a world class contender and a future hall of fame player so I somehow doubt he will care what some scrub has to say. He’s the ultimate guy you love to hate except when he’s on your team. Burish may have a “cup” but it will take all summer to get the splinters out of his ass from all that bench-riding he did. Totally classless. Real fans know that once a series is over, the players all shake hands it is one of the most sportsmanlike traditions in all of sport. He should have left the trash talk for next season, and showed a little more class.
For those people that complain about the “roughness” of hockey… Go watch golf.
Hawks have dirty players too… they should have had to register for Megan’s Law on some of the molestation that went on with Ville Leino, not to mention the times they tried to take his head off his body with no calls. My point is only this… it goes both ways and EVERY team has those chippy players, EVERY team has ignorant fans… EVERY team has players people don’t like… That’s why it’s HOCKEY!! Trash talk is part of the sport but when it’s over… it’s over, and ALL fans should be talking about how great the season was instead of complaining about BS. By the way, Hawks fans can say the Flyers fans are crying, but after the game not a single fan complained about the outcome. They smiled, they laughed, and talked about how great the season was. You aren’t hurting them one bit.
The only thing ALL fans agree on is that Buttman is the worst comish is all of sports in the history of sports. Worth thing that ever happened to hockey he needs to GO! They boo’d the MVP because they knew he didn’t deserve it, as did HE, since he looked shocked. Duncan Keith, Niemi, or even Sharp were more deserving among others. But Buttman is only thinking about his MARKETING BS, and not the sport. Can’t market a guy missing half his teeth can we? We don’t want people thinking that HOCKEY is rough or anything do we? Buttman is the biggest twit of all time! BTW Fans in orange shirts did cheer for Keith, Sharp, and Niemi and a couple others, I was there. They boo’d Buff just as the hawks fans would boo Pronger. Grow up already.
Again, congrats to Rocky Wirtz, the Hawks, and they’re GREAT hockey fans… the rest will fade off as soon as the team starts losing again.

  15. John - Jun 11, 2010 at 11:58 AM

Who cares…you people need to let it go.
    Congratulations to Chicago.
I’ve been a Flyers fan since the the team came to Philly in 67.
The better team won but, like in all things there are classless people everywhere doing everything not just in hockey.

  16. Taki - Jun 11, 2010 at 1:54 PM

really though, Burish didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. Chris Pronger is the biggest idiot in the league.

  17. diane - Jun 11, 2010 at 2:14 PM

How in the world can you say the Flyers suck? Was it not the Flyers who played the Hawks for the Cup??? Speak again when your IQ jumps to double-digits.

  18. Michael Grossman - Jun 11, 2010 at 2:21 PM

(P)wronger is a thug and a cheap shot artist extrordinaire. Every time I saw him on the ice during the playoffs (and regular season too) he was throwing an elbow or handing out a hit to someone’s head. The guy is a classless LOSER. He should have been playing for Filth-adelphia in the 70’s. Most players in the league would silently agree with Burish!

  19. Tony - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:23 PM

burish is the biggest idiot in the league. Ge is just a total goon

  20. Winger - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:31 PM

What’s Pronger doing today? He gave those pucks to Niemi, the champion netminder that won the games, right?

  23. Winger - Jun 11, 2010 at 4:27 PM

    Dear Adam Who?
Comprehension issues? You must have not graduated grammar school judging from the fact that you have completely missed the point.
Burish never said he was better. Nobody said that or cares that Pronger is better. He just stated the truth: Pronger is a complete dickhead that everyone hates. He is the dirtiest player in the NHL and is a cancer for our beautiful sport. We all think it is funny that someone used a big spotlight to call Pronger out on it. Don’t worry man, let’s just use that same cr@ppy excuse that Philly fans always use for Pronger- “it’s just gamesmanship”. I never heard of more cr@p in my life. I would never tell my son, don’t worry about being a cheating liar, it’s just gamesmanship. Your kids are going to grow up being the next Bernie Madoff.

  24. Winger - Jun 11, 2010 at 4:31 PM

Burish today: Holding the cup in front of a crowd of 2 million people.
Ponger: taking a dump, thinking about selling pucks on eBay.

  25. Adam - Jun 11, 2010 at 4:42 PM

No class at all, huh? This, coming from someone with the name “Cindy Crosby.” Was it classy when Pronger threw the game 2 pucks in the trash? Burish is really just being truthful. Pronger is a goon that no one likes, plain and simple. I fully support Burish and this comment.

  26. lawl adam is dumb - Jun 11, 2010 at 5:58 PM

Ha burish is garbage. he didn’t even play game 6.

  27. go f urself - Jun 11, 2010 at 6:57 PM

ah chicago, the land of the bandwagon hockey fan. you all need to enjoy it. just remember, hockey is played on ice. there is a goalie and 5 other players going against another goalie and 5 other players. it is played with giant sticks called “hockey sticks”. players wear skates and it is played on ice. the objective is to try and put the puck into a net. now that you know the basics, please go yell and scream at the parade. the real housewives of NJ will be on shortly to divert your attention.

  28. Anonymous - Jun 11, 2010 at 7:17 PM

electrified the team its called role players stupid

  29. Burish fan - Jun 11, 2010 at 8:23 PM

In my opinion Chris Pronger brings it all on himself with the stupid comments he makes, like telling the media, “I don’t speak that language.” Referring to Ben Eager’s remarks about taking the pucks. So obviously he doesn’t speak english?? He is arrogant and doesn’t treat anyone with respect so why is it such a big deal when someone says something about him. Burish may not have had a huge impact on the series, but this is a guy who got cut in the neck with a skate in the playoffs and didn’t miss any time. I think the guy deserves some credit for the heart he puts into the game even if he isn’t a super star. He does the part he is asked to pretty well if you ask me.

  30. Anonymous - Jun 11, 2010 at 8:46 PM

oh please, prongers an old, cheap player that would have little impact on hockey if he didn’t play so dirty… he truly lost the cup for the Flyers this year with all his dumb penalties…. the game he did get called on his cheap playing style, he went -6 overall , which was a career low for him. Dirty player, little talent, ruining hockey = Chris Pronger. I had respect for him before the last playoff series.

  31. Anonymous - Jun 11, 2010 at 8:49 PM

how can you even begin to say that pronger shut down our top lines!? He went -6 in the most important game of the series. he sucks! he got caught playing dirty for once and he lost the entire series on stupid penalties for his team…. Pronger needs to retire

  32. YeeeHaaaw - Jun 12, 2010 at 2:10 AM

Just got back from an entire day celebrating the Da’ CUP!!!!!!
    Parade, two million strong! Wow.
Spoke with many many people who are behind Burish. Pronger should take his hack style and start up a new league in South America. He is no longer relevant. Let everybody know, there is a new sheriff in town, and his name is Dustin Byfuglien.
OK I gotta get some sleep and rest up for tomorrow. Later!

  33. Alexis - Jun 12, 2010 at 1:03 PM

Honestly, if you Philly fans can’t take a little trash talk then you really cannot say you love every aspect of hockey. Pronger plays dirty, we all know this. I won’t deny that he is a good player because he clearly is, but someone has to put him in his place. I haven’t heard of many people that actually do like him and Burish is just stating the obvious and I love him dearly for that. If this little statement is getting this much response then clearly it’s not Burish who should be considered bitter, but rather the Philly fans. At least Burish is a big enough man and actually say something offensive to him, unlike Pronger who could only muster to Bolland that “his breath smelled.” Regardless of what everyone thinks of his comment, he said it. And now Chicago had the Cup and Philly and Pronger will just have to deal with that.

  34. hockeyfan - Jun 12, 2010 at 11:25 PM

Actually he did own up to it. He said there was nothing in the rule book that says the home team gets the puck. And then he said, I don’t know if you noticed but I picked up the puck from the first game to.

  35. hockeyfan - Jun 12, 2010 at 11:36 PM

Boorish only did that so he’d actually MAKE the news… otherwise no one would have even remembered that he was there… don’t worry Boorish, you’ll be safe next year in the minors

  36. spicemanpeteo - Jun 13, 2010 at 3:31 AM

Adam Burish is a hack who should keep his mouth shut. Obviously he just won the cup and felt like he was on top of the world and didn’t really care what he said. But to say it at that time is classless and cowardly. There’s no way around that. I doubt any of his teammates who actually played against Pronger would have said something like that. And, he did shut down Chicago’s first line. The were successful in games 5 and 6 because the coach broke them up and put them on three separate lines. Pay attention. And, Burish did comment on Pronger’s skill. He said he should’ve been wearing a skirt in game 6 beacause he was “terrible out there.” They should be happy that Pronger didn’t play well in the last two games and not use that as an opportunity to trash him. They should be happy that Byfuglien (what the hell kind of name is that anyway?) finally got his head out of his ass and started to throw his weight around. He completely leveled Pronger in game 5. Don’t take credit away from your player by saying that it was because Pronger plays like a girl. The guy is in his 30’s and played more minutes than any other player. Maybe he was finally run down, but you can’t take credit away from him because of that. And call him what you want, at least he doesn’t trash talk other players, and our city’s papers don’t make posters that mock the other team or it’s players. Also, talk to the Blackhawks fans who caught the pucks that Pronger threw in the crowd. He didn’t steal them. I wonder if your classy fans gave them back.
