President Obama congratulates Blackhawks for Cup win

Jun 10, 2010, 9:00 PM EDT

obamawithcup.jpgWhile the Washington Capitals failed to get President Barack Obama to attend a game at the Verizon Center, the Chicago Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup victory earned them a phone call. Here’s more from the Chicago Sun-Times.

In the wake of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup victory, President Obama on Thursday called Head Coach Joel Quenneville to congratulate him and invite the team to the White House. Obama asked Quenneville to “let team owner Rocky Wirtz and President John McDonough know how impressed he was with their ability to turn the team around so quickly.”

Obama watched some of the playoffs, I was told. The Blackhawks bested the Philadelphia Flyers; Obama and Quenneville joked that Obama has some “bragging rights” over Vice President Biden, a Flyers fan.

No word on whether or not Biden is “day-to-day with hurt feelings” regarding Philly’s defeat.

Hussein should stay away from the Blackhawks, we don’t need losers associated with the team. I know the players despise him, and he had no balls to show up for game 1 in Chi because he would have been booed out of the building. I love how NBC continues to be the Goebbels propaganda machine for Hussein Obama. You people are just pathetic.

  2. Brian - Jun 10, 2010 at 11:45 PM

Just stick to hockey and keep your “pathetic” comments regarding President Barak H. Obama to yourself; no one’s really interested in your politial “opinion” (I use the term loosely)

  3. jefcostello - Jun 11, 2010 at 12:04 AM

Professo Hussein has no place in hockey, he can’t even name one player on his beloved Sox. The Hawks are pure winners, in sports you earn it by winning. Professor Hussein is an affirmative action douche, he’s the anthesis of sport and victory. He’s presence any where near the Blackhawks is laughable. Contrasts to the extreme, champions, Hawks, loser, Hussein Obama. La, de, dah!!!!!!!!

Again, refer to #2; the real douches are soura$$ folk who can’t accept the fact of Barak Obama as OUR nation’s President (this fact is really besides the point however). Stick to the subject at hand (Hockey)- using the site to post political potshots reflects assinine (allbeit) personal viewpoints; Congratulations to the Blackhawks for their well-deserved championship (just for full disclose, I am, and always will be, a Flyers fan).

Why the emphasis on using Barack’s middle name. Are you one the lunatic fringe ‘birthers’ or do you believe he’s Muslim?
You clearly have a disconnect with reality. You claim he’s not a true winner yet he won the electoral and popular votes by the biggest margins in 12 years.
Also by referring to him as professor, do you consider it a bad thing that he insists on speaking calmly and intelligently?
He missed home games because he was visiting the Gulf coast. He’s a sports fan, but primarily basketball and wants to show support for his hometown champs. What’s your beef with this?

  6. jef - Jun 11, 2010 at 2:19 PM

Birther movement was started by HIllary clinton and Co.
Why should we not embrace the affirmative action President middle name, Hussein?
I did not start Hussein getting involved in the Hawks, the propaganda arm of the WH, NBC did by posting this story.
I know the players hate him, this is a fact.
Go Hawks!!! The deserved the championship, Hussein is an affirmative action tool!

I love my HAWKS. Jeff, something isn’t right with you. I will pray for you.

  8. ZIBGNEW - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:15 PM

Maybe you need some help, so here you go:
Husein, Hussein, Husain, Hussain, Husayin, Hussayin, Huseyin, Husseyin, Huseyn, Husseyn (Arabic: حسین Ḥussayn), is an Arabic name which is the diminutive of Hassan, meaning “good” or “handsome” or “beautiful”. It is commonly given as a male given name among Muslims.
So should we just pretend Hussein is an authentic american name and not muslim? REally, if anyone speaks the truth they are ridiculed as “birthers” which I bet, you aren’t educated on that subject either, your head is just filled with the propaganda the msm feeds you. Don’t question the great Hussein obama don’t ask where he came from, don’t expect him to produce any records that all past Presidents have had to produce. He’s the great Hussein and Nikolai is one of the drone followers.
I too hope he doesn’t soil the Blackhawks moment with his presence.

  9. NikolaiNYR - Jun 11, 2010 at 3:46 PM

I’m not saying I don’t recognize that Barack has an Arabic middle name or an African father. The way Jef keeps stressing his middle name and referring to him as an affirmative action president reeks of racism and I was trying to figure if that’s really were this guy is coming from.
If a Obama won a vote by huge margins, and votes aren’t counted differently based on race, than how is he an affirmative action president? What is Jef’s issue with the president other than his name and race.
To get to the point of the article, I don’t see the problem with the president congratulating a historic championship team from his hometown and inviting them to the White House. Pres. Bush would have done the same thing for the Mavericks or Stars despite not being a fan of either sport.

  10. jef - Jun 11, 2010 at 5:24 PM

I am not denying that he won the Presidency by a wide margin, but I want to see his school records, the ones that EVERY other President has willingly supplied. He’s either an affirmative action hack, or he’s a foreign student. What is the soulful Hussein hiding? Why did he get a scholarship from Occidental College that only foreign students could get? This is a FACT!!! I did not start this, I like my sports pure of politicians, NBC created this by posting the story, and NBC has proven to be a propaganda arm of Hussein Obama, he’s best friends with the CEO of GE and they have systematical pushed his agenda from the global warming lie to his health care debacle.
Again, Hussein Obama, stay away from the Hawks, the players do not like you and neither do the fans.

You sir are a hate filled idiot. The only good thing is that people who think like you are dying everyday and being replaced reasonable individuals who actually believe in the American credo “All men are created equal”. Hey Jeff, let me tell you something else I know about you…..You don’t have one friend who is not of European descent!…..Amazing isn’t it, and I’m not even a psychic. That goes for you too Zibgnew.
Like President Obama I am a former south sider. Jeff you’re probably a leftover from the old Marquette Park or Bridgeport. I too would like to extend my congratulations to the Blackhawks, and I hope that President Obama gets to congratulate MY BEARS publicly after a Superbowl win in February!!!
Elected officials have historically congratulated sports Champions. That includes former and present Mayors (Daley), Governors, and Presidents. The only thing that makes this situation different is your hate.

  12. Nate - Jun 12, 2010 at 12:30 AM

I’m sorry Jeff, I just noticed that your last name is Costello. That means that you’re probably from Cicero.

jef is just another loser with no clue

Nice to see a good little article on the Hawks Cup win, and a fun conversation of Quenville and President Obama bring out the crazies. Way to go Hawks! You have made hockey fans proud, even us Leafs fans that were pulling for ya! Have fun at the White House.
BTW, have any of you seen the rumors of Dave Tallon possibly getting a ring too? Stan Bowman suggested it.
