Couple of comments about missed calls:
1. Hartnell was in the crease on Philly 2nd goal. Goal should have been waved off…That used to be the rule.
2. A blackhawks defenseman got a penalty for covering (holding) the puck. At the time his feet were in the crease. Covering the puck in the crease is penalty shot!!!! Why didn’t Philly get a penalty shot!!
Why wasn’t any of this mentioned during the telecast and when did the rules change?? WTF?

The Hawks have gotten the short end of the calls all series. A Hawks penalty was called for a high stick on Prongers just as a make up penalty for not calling one on the Briere high stick. So where was the make up penalty for the Flyers high sticking Campbell? What about the no call for goalie interfierence on Hartnell on one of the Flyers goals? No Flyer cross check penalty when Leighton got called for shoving the net off. Pitiful.

And here I didn’t think that there could be a whinier fan base than Montreal. Chicago takes the cake.
The high stick on Campbell and the high stick on Briere were both obvious penalties. Both should have been called (although the bleeding rule is absurd — nothing more unsettling than watching a grown man desperately pick at his own face to force a drop of blood). As for the cross-checks, punches to the back of the head, shoving after the whistle, etc. etc., that’s hockey. I get that the vast, vast majority of you Chicagoans are new to the sport — that much is obvious — but please, enough with the big bad Pronger whining. It makes you look ignorant, not to mention childish.

Laviolette didn’t spill his guts about what happened to Briere; he was asked what he thought about it and he answered, so you can stop calling him a crybaby. Officiating in the Finals has been pretty horrible all around, but the funny part about is how much louder Chicago fans are about it. This is hockey, not basketball. Flyers in 7!!!

As a Shark fan and a hockey fan I have to say the Hawks have taken the worst of the calls in The Finals. They actually took the worst of the calls against us. They are the best team team in hockey this year and I hope they win it! As for the big fat cry baby laviolette … shut up and quit crying.

If you think Pronger is “little better than a goon” than you obviously know nothing about hockey and what he can accomplish on the ice. No fans of opposing teams like his style of play, but he gets the job done (in most games). 9 times out of 10 on a defensive play, he’s either coming away with the puck, or the play is broken up. His shot from the point is a cannon, and he rarely fans on one timers. Anyone who plays or has played hockey, can appreciate the work he does on the ice, as well as the amount of minutes he plays per game. Like him or not, he’s an asset to whatever team he’s on.

I love the Blackhawks fans on here acting like Chicago hasn’t gotten away with numerous penalties in this series. It seems like a Flyers player is always getting knocked down away from the play when they start rushes and don’t tell me all of Byfuglien’s hits have been legal (charging from across the ice to slam someone into the boards from behind is a penalty the last I checked). The punches to the back of the head are happening on both sides and Hartnell got called for one the other night. Both teams are getting away with murder. That being said, if a player gets hit up high with a stick and is bleeding, it should most certainly be a 4-minute penalty. They should have called the one on Campbell and they should have called the one on Briere, although it looked like Briere got it worse. Regardless, it was almost the exact same situation in both cases.

If you watch hockey all year you will already know that cross checking is a complete mystery. It seems that hockey has gone the route of lacrosse when it comes to using the “fender” technique. Don’t kid yourself in grossing about Pronger doing it. These players are conditioned to go down like soccer fakers at the slightest touch. Guys that have been on skates go down like they are made of paper. The new style rules have led to a new breed of divers. Play tough.

Game 4, 3rd period, Bolland is cross checked in front of goal with loose puck. Hawks at the time down by 1!!!! Blatant penalty, and a point blank shot, no call!!! Eddie O replayed itt and commented. So shut your face, and F you!!

I completely agree. What amazes me most is the types of penalties that are not being called, such as cross check, roughing, and interference. In game five, both teams were abusing the rules. Of course, this is the first game were the Blackhawks matched the Flyers in penalty offenses. Blackhawks are finally realizing they have to play as dirty as the Flyers to beat the Flyers, and not worry about the refs whistles.

While Id rather see old time hockey where you realllly had to try and take a penelty in the finals… I guess I have to accept thats just not the way hockey will ever be under a wuss like Bettman and his crush on a whinner like Crosby.
So anyway, should this have been a penelty? Of course it should have been. And so should the high stick on Brian Campbell. And going by the currenty pansy rules, there should have been a slew of other penelties on both teams… but there wasn’t. Thats the nature of the game, and crying about them after the game is pointless.

I have seen many stories lately bragging up the TV numbers for the playoffs and the finals in particular. Well those numbers must include many new fans as well as the old guard, and the NHL still cannot get it through their tiny minds that fans expect missed calls and an occasional ref’s gaff or two, but “letting the boys play” is beyond stupid. Call the penalties, just like they did all year: stick parallel to ice, it’s interference—elbow to the head, it’s roughing—two-handed crosscheck to the back at center ice, it’s crosschecking. The stakes are higher in the finals and it seems every year the officiating goes about as low as it can get.

Sure it should have been a penalty, so should the one on Campbell. The one I think they missed was when Hossa got cross-checked at the blue line. Could have been cross checking, should have been intereference.

funny how blackhawk fans whine and complain to get their way. i knew the furor would get some traction. they get a mysterious 5 on 3 in game 4. briere gets a high stick and nothing in game 5? and bill, cut me a break. missed calls both ways. forgetting eager leaving the ice for a hit. campbells head shot with the elbow. etc….
quit crying chicago. it’s hockey. not the ice capades.

Lets not even start talking about missed calls and pour officiating. The fact that the Flyers had not one penalty in game one, not to mention the countless hooking, slashing punches to the back of the head and goalie interference calls that were missed on the Flyers is ridiculous.

Don’t even start about this being a missed call. Where is the stories about missed calls when the Blackhawks got high-sticked, cross checked numerous times in the previous games????? As far as i am concerned this was ONE of many make up calls that STILL need to be made against the Blackhawks.

After watching Chris “MVP” Pronger slice, dice, chop, elbow and whack his way through the finals, there can be very little discussion about a missed high stick or two over the course of five games. I haven’t seen such a display of contempt for the rules since before the lock-out, but come to think of it, all that crap was quasi-legal back then.
