2010 Stanley Cup finals: Flyers-Blackhawks Game 5 Live Chat

Jun 6, 2010, 10:38 PM EDT

Many hockey writers will tell you that a Game 5 is a “pivotal” moment in a series, especially when the teams are locked up 2-2. I guess that’s probably true, since the winner of tonight’s Flyers-Blackhawks game will only have to go .500 in the final two games once they take this victory.

Will the Philadelphia Flyers continue their impressive run of shutting down Chicago stars Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane? Could having the final line change allow Chicago to keep at least one of those stars away from the imposing presence that is Chris Pronger?

It should be a fascinating game, for sure. So go ahead and hop into our live chat. We’ll provide instant analysis, a poll here or there, and maybe even a horrible pun or two. Enjoy!

Am I the only one who realizes that the Blackhawks stole their song from every Amstel Light commercial for the last 5 years? They aren’t doing anything but selling beer. Amstel must be elated. They could at least come up with a song that represents the team/city/spirit of the team.

  2. davec - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:09 PM

Flyers will win the next 2 games and there is nothing Chicago can do. We have the media and the refs on our side. The Flyers have outplayed the Blackhawks in every respect. Blackhawks are too young and too undisciplined, and they are wimps.

  3. lauren - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:19 PM

    NOW,
Carter of course went partying last night. as always. Why does Laviollette let this guy play when he makes a fool of his team???? Also, who do you think deserves the cup…since Chicago has been great all season, and the Flyers were pretty up and down, although they have made an amazing comeback. Hmmm….

  4. davec - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:34 PM

Ha Ha! Look at the blackhawks missing the net in their own building! They can’t handle the pressure! Give it up Chicago! You cannot win! GO FLYERS!

  5. frank - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:36 PM

could the anouncers possibly go down on the ice and just give all the blackhawks players oral??? give me a break!!

  6. davec - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:43 PM

Why are the refs calling penalties on the Flyers? They should get bashed to the ice for that!

  7. steve o - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:50 PM

Why the heck is the game not on. I saw Harry Potter now I see a special about old SNL.. ARE YOU SERIOUS NBC? Why is the game not on?????? Who cares about Harry Potter? Especially during a huge game? What a disaster.

  8. Stinky Pete - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:53 PM

Anyone know how i can watch the game online?

  9. steve o - Jun 6, 2010 at 8:58 PM

I live about 1.5 hrs north of Philly and for some reason NBC is not broadcasting the game. It is not on Comcast, VS, or any other channel. My guide says “NHL Hockey” yet I currently see a Chris Rock interview. This is unacceptable. This is the championship. NBC, if you’re going to get the contract for the finals, you might want to actually air it. What would happen if CBS just decided not to air the Super Bowl? Now I know why there is no other good sports on NBC.. what a worthless channel. I’v been boycotting Leno but now I’ll never watch any show on this channel again.

  10. aaarrggghhhhhhh - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:03 PM

i guess the refs got the e-mail from everyone to call a ton against the flyers. some very marginal calls. knew it was coming.

  11. Anonymous - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:04 PM

It’s finally on. Came on at 9pm. Like I said, east coast, north of Philly. What a horrible channel. Celebrity apprentice? Go fuck yourself NBC. Thank god ESPN got World Cup and not you. You’de show Biggest Loser Season 18 or some garbage instead.

  12. Rick - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:10 PM

The refs are calling penalties on the Flyers because Hockey is the only sport that allows its officials to change the rules according to where the game is played and what the situation is. A penalty in Philadelphia is not a penalty in Chicago, A regular season penalty is not a penalty in the playoffs. Ever see a makeup call in baseball? Or Football? No, but in Hockey, everyone knows a makeup call is coming, even the broadcasters!! That is why they are a second rate sport and will never be anything more than fourth in the big four!!

  13. kevin - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:11 PM

can doc try to be just a little fair in his calls.every time a flyer makes a play he still is giving credit to the blackhawks

  14. luvtheboys - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:11 PM

I agree with you, Frank. I wish I knew how to contact NBC Sports about the announcers. They’re awful. Aren’t the play-by-play announcers supposed to be neutral. I’m getting sick and tired of hearing how wonderful Chicago is. Given the series is tie 2-2, couldn’t they at least try to be a bit more impartial. Go Flyers!

  15. hero - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:18 PM

God,,,I thought the announcers of these national tv games were SUPPOSED to be impartial. What a bunch of homer assclowns. Chicago this, Chicago that, how do WE start Kane and Toews, we have to do this and that….makes me wanna puke. Is it legal for Milbury and Roenick to be handjobbing each other on national tv???This is as bad as when Troy Aikman does a Cowboys game…..no wonder NBC sucks……..

  16. davec - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:24 PM

Blackhawks getting spanked in the 2nd period. They are showing their lack of heart. Theyre falling into every trap the Flyers set!

  17. ron - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:36 PM

    hawks rule you guys suck

  18. CupTime - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:36 PM

Can someone tell Doc Emerick to announce the game fair or just put on a Blackhawks jersey? He sounds like he’s going to wet his pants when the Hawks score.

  19. DWood - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:39 PM

Someone help me out as I don’t watch alot of hockey on tv, but I thought a goal was disallowed when the other teams player is clearly in the crease?

  20. Bill - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:47 PM

Flyers make good checks they get penalized, “Buffy” throws 3 punches at richards in front of net and no call. Announcers are embarassing ! watch the teeth guys you’ll hurt the hawks players with all of the positive “lip service”. Who the hell is this idiot “enzo” anyway, he is pathetic !!

  21. Fuck NBC - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:50 PM

I can’t fucking stand these NBC announcers. Stop shoving the Blackcocks down your fucking throat and stop being so goddamn biased. This is ridiculous.

  22. fuckNBCintheass - Jun 6, 2010 at 9:55 PM

Longest yard tactics time. Pucks to the ref’s balls till they learn to call a fair game.
Biased much NBS announcers? Get the fuck off the air and down on the ice. You’ll have to lay down to get at By(sexual)-fugly’s balls though, he’s on his knees blowing the zebras.

  23. obdajucieman - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:00 PM

the hawks will take the cup this year i don’t care what no one has to say

  24. f-philly - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:03 PM

Flyers make good checks like Ted Bundy makes good chili.

  25. xxLouA - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:07 PM

Hey Davec, I wish you were right about the media, that bald creep is Chicago all the way and McCreepy has been against Flyers forever, Chicago has been whining about Ref’s and have no reason for it. The announcer is supposed to be bias but he is far from it. NBC sucks having him do the games.
    Hope ur right…Go Flyers,
BTW read all the other guys here screw the announcers their goofy

  26. fucktheref - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:09 PM

if the ref are going to call it on one team call both was welcome to Chicago the same way it was in the first two game call the even ass holes

  27. B - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:09 PM

OMG – When the Flyers score it’s like oh – they scored – when the Flyers are pressing hard in their offense end – it’s oh the Blackhawks have to get that puck out into the neutral zone – they have to be better on their passes – must be getting paid by the Blackhawks!

  28. Joe - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:09 PM

There is absolutely nothing neutral or objective about NBC’s announcers. They want Chicago to win so bad it’s ridiculously obvious. It really sucks listening to them, they blow.

  29. Jim Bajor - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:12 PM

How do keeo on-air announcers who are so biased toward one team and actually comment that a player dersves to be hit hard or hurt? You need to replace your anouncers, or have some guts to discipline them… horrendous coverage so far by a national broadcast team!

  30. WTF - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:16 PM

Most people want Chicago to win. Get over it.

  31. Chris - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:32 PM

I agree it is obvious the announcers are all about the Hawks.Sometimes the refs to.

  32. Anonymous - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:41 PM

look at the last 2 games in philly. the refs had blinders on! stop being such a wanker…you can’t have your cake and eat it too. moron!

  33. Lela - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:48 PM

So, I know this is ages ago, but it’s bugging me…anyone know why the Flyers 2nd goal was not goalie interference when a Flyer dove into the right pad of Nieme so that Nieme couldn’t move????

  34. joe - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:50 PM

    nbc announcers blow

  35. Sharp - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:50 PM

I’d feel like a fag if my team used a gay song like the Hawks use after they score. But then, that’s Chicago.

  36. dennis - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:56 PM

ref only call stuff for flyers when it is on the camera hawks get more calls then the flyers

  37. Anonymous - Jun 6, 2010 at 10:58 PM

i dont think so look at all the calls you have blinders on dick head

  38. Chris - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:03 PM

Now all of the announcers can rush down to the hawks locker room and top off their night with a ball massage.I hope NBC can do better next year choosing their announcers.

  39. the refs suck - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:05 PM

Lela, it was incidental contact. i hope you are not talking about the old skate in the crease rule. that was 8 years ago.
ps the refs sucked tonight. they were pretty good up until tonight. called ticky tack garbage early on and then missed a bunch. nice to see that when chicago and the media complain about the big bad flyers and it gets close, the whistles start to blow (along with the refs). oh, nice miss on the briere bleeding high stick. of course, last game chicago gets a 5 on 3. tonight, missed call.

  40. the refs sucked - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:08 PM

i am pretty sure the nbc guys are taking care of the blackhawks in the locker room. if you know what i mean. the refs will be joining them in a little bit after they get into something more comfortable.

  41. Lela - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:35 PM

I had to rewind and play back in slow motion to check it again, but I don’t understand how that was incidental. The Flyer was not touched by any other player. . .no one was even around him and he DOVE, head first, into Nieme’s pad. He was not pushed, he didn’t trip, etc. He dove…Anyone that has rewind can check it out. Maybe I’m totally missing something? How in the world is diving into a goalie, incidental?

  42. Lela - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:42 PM

Yeah, the refs missed the Brier bleeding high stick just like they missed the Hossa cross check in the back at the blue line with a ref right next to them that sent Hossa to the locker room for ten minutes. I think the refs missed things on both sides, but at least it’s not all 1 sided misses like it has been the last four games (where Chicago was called for everything while Flyers got away with crap left and right — like the TWO times Leighton – once each the two games in Philadelphia – used his blocker to punch Blackhawks in the head as they skated by!).

  43. Lela - Jun 6, 2010 at 11:46 PM

Yes, the refs missed the brier bleeding high stick call, but they also missed the cross check in the back to Hossa which sent him into the locker room for ten minutes. At least this game they were closer to fair, unlike the last four games which have all been called in the Flyer’s favor — the last two games in Philly Leighton used his blocker to punch two Blackhawks as they skated by him, one each game.

  44. Matt - Jun 7, 2010 at 12:16 AM

Its really funny how everyone is saying NBC announcers are rooting for the Hawks but if you watched Verus it was the other way around. Well I hope you Flyer fans realize that you have been grounded. The Hawks will win it in your building. Enjoy the Humble pie when you have no excuses to talk about.

  45. FlyerFan - Jun 7, 2010 at 4:22 AM

Well said Matt. You are pretty much dead on.

  46. PM - Jun 7, 2010 at 6:33 PM

Hawlks love to hit from behind. Does that mean they are gay.

  47. uncledean - Jun 8, 2010 at 11:41 PM
