2010 Stanley Cup finals: Live Chat for Game 2 of Flyers-Hawks

May 31, 2010, 10:00 PM EST

At first I thought that Saturday’s Live Chat had the most readers ever, but it turns out it had the most comments. While that’s not as sexy as sheer reader numbers, what that means is that everyone had a lot to say about that wacky Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals. (And maybe … just maybe, that people came into the chat room and stuck around longer than ever? I’m nothing if not a wishful thinker.)

Anyway, we hope you enjoy these chats since we’ll be doing one for every game of the finals. That includes tonight’s Game 2 tilt. The chat starts now but the game itself will begin around 8:00 pm ET. Feel free to peruse the PHT content listed below and join the Live Chat. (Heck, you can even tell a friend or two. We won’t mind.)

Here’s the big group of posts we wrote prior to Game 1, because some of them are still fresh and interesting.

  5. Mark - May 31, 2010 at 8:35 PM

Not happy here either. I can’t watch the game because my local is showing the Victory Banquet for the Indy 500.

  6. Mike - May 31, 2010 at 8:47 PM

your camera people are horrible ………….

I cant seem to find the ISOCam, could you give me a hand?

  8. nhl on nbc is a joke - May 31, 2010 at 9:02 PM

The sound on NBC games all year has been TERRIBLE. Do they not listen to the game? How is it our local broadcasts can get the commentary clear AND still have the sound of the game, but the vaunted national broadcast can’t.
Course, maybe we should be grateful since it helps muffle some of the bias from the announcers (really? allowing Eddie Olczyk – the blackhawks normal color guy – do the broadcast on what should be completely neutral commentary?). Mike Emrick is overrated (Dave Strader is much better), and Pierre McGuire and Mike Milbury are just egotistical know-it-all idiots.
I’m not a fan of either of these teams, so could care less of the outcome…just looking for entertaining games. But it is almost unbearable to have to put up with this joke of a broadcast.

  9. arrgghhhh - May 31, 2010 at 9:02 PM

i guess the squeaky wheel does get the oil. some very suspect calls (weak)going on. hey chicago, i realize that most of the people in the stands are fairly new to hockey (all of a sudden they sell out this year-years prior not so much) but just because a blackhawk gets hit does not mean it is always a penalty. it’s hockey, not chicago bears football.

  10. Brent Spear - May 31, 2010 at 9:03 PM

Hey, NBC: Do you need a TD to come out and figure out what’s wrong with your audio? This is game 2!! 2 Days later and your play by play is still dropping a leg giving us single ended audio.
We’ll be broadcasting the NHL awards from ‘my’ studio here in Vegas and I know the audio will be perfect, so if you need me to come take a look at what you can’t fix, please let me know. This is horrible for all hockey fans. You had 2 days to find your problem. FIX IT or call me!!!

  11. Hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 9:04 PM

only if you are a hawks fan. lol

  12. Jim - May 31, 2010 at 9:05 PM

The announcers, especially Emrick, are good and interesting. It is a shame we cannot hear them. They obviously have the worst sound people in the industry. I guess that is what happens when you are the 4th network.

  13. lvhoward - May 31, 2010 at 9:08 PM

Un-freakin believable. It isnt bad enough having the worst commissioner in all of sports governing our game; making it virtually impossible for real hockey fans, perhaps displaced from thier home team, to see any form of hockey on tv. But now we must continue to deal with this amatuerish audio from nbc. It isnt a new problem. They have been ruining games now since last years Finals. Come on! Lets fire somebody, this isnt rocket science. How can they not notice, maybe they dont watch hockey either.

  14. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 9:08 PM

I understand that companies want you to buy cable but if your gonna try to watch a game online chances are, like me, your at work and can’t! Man I wish this was like the ncaa tournament and I could just watch the cam and didn’t have to figure out what is going on from iso cam. I mean I guess it’s better than nothing but it’s killing me to not see the whole ice! I just hope that I see a hawks player score a goal while on iso cam, or that he is at least in the frame!

  15. mac shimmon - May 31, 2010 at 9:15 PM

the commentary on NBC is incredibly poor. The guy on the right…dark hair…used to be coach…is so biased it’s really disgusting. I guess he thinks he knows more about hockey than all of us.

  16. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 9:17 PM

    Jacob,
Go to NHL.com, it is on the right side of the main page.
P.S. If anybody starts interacting in the chat I’m sure you will say I’m a bandwagon jumper, well I will beat you to the punch. Yes, I started watching hockey last year when the Hawks got good. No, I probably don’t know as much as you about the sport, but I have come to really love the fast pace of the game and can’t get enough of it! I went to my first game this year when I saw the Blackhawks play the Blues and it was a great time! I am hooked on this sport now so when you start to bash me just remember everyone starts liking something sometime, for some reason. My roots just aren’t as deep as yours but believe me I care, And don’t say I won’t when they suck again because I a die hard Cubs and Bears fan also so you can’t say I am a fairweather fan. Just took longer to find the sport. After all, If you do love Hockey you want it to grow so it will get off of VS right?

  17. Logan - May 31, 2010 at 9:20 PM

    Dear NBC,
Stop hiring bias commentators such as Milbury who is all about the EAST coast and never gives any credit to any other team outside the east coast especially the hawks since he had nothing once again to say positive about the hawks

  18. puckhead - May 31, 2010 at 9:37 PM

The Hawks are controlling the game and time of possesion

  19. Joseph Szlavik - May 31, 2010 at 9:38 PM

NBC is so BIASED, NBC wants and talks Chicago, I wish all the games were on Versus where the commentary is balanced!! Piere you stink extra!!!

  20. Melanie - May 31, 2010 at 9:38 PM

I’ll just keep the TV on mute during the game. I’m tired of listening to their announcers be so bias towards the Flyers. I don’t care if you root for the flyers, but geeze, let’s not have any bias in a reporting situation. It’s annoying how much they kiss Pronger’s butt. It’s fine to say one great thing about the team. But, when your whole segment is about how the Flyers are going to win the cup, it gets a little old. So I’ll just have it on mute and wait until someone scores to hear the siren.

  21. Brent Spear - May 31, 2010 at 9:41 PM

I don’t think anyone calls anyone bandwagon fans in Hockey. It’s not one of USA’s ‘Big 3′ sports (maybe big 4), so we take all the fans we can get. I used to be a huge fan until the strike and could not care less about the sport after missing it for a full year. I only began watching last year at the beginning of the playoffs and luckily my Pens won the cup. I haven’t worn my Pens jersey in years and don’t feel enough of a fan to do so yet, but I say to you: welcome to the game – it can get quite exciting. PS I’m rooting for the hawks to get the cup

It’s “grease” not “oil”, but what can you expect from somebody who thinks Hawks fans are “new” to the game. Ever hear of the Original Six? Guess that’s a little before your time.

    Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllll agaiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!! Hossa, eager!!!!

  25. Rich - May 31, 2010 at 9:57 PM

Milbury continues to demonstrate why he no longer is wanted in the NHL as a coach. He is an idiot. Him and Pierre look like two idiots at the end of a cheap bar. Thank God for JR. And tonight… is Carcillo somehow Bob Probert? I don’t think so. This is a puke who didn’t win a fight a year. He certainly wanted nothing to do with Dustin Byfuglien, when Big Buff went up to him after laying him out. And please, Chris Pronger??? Washed up has been. Journeyman. What has he done so far???

  26. sharks fan - May 31, 2010 at 9:58 PM

    Dear Flyers fans,
Get ready – you’ll be in it and in it and think you got a chance, and next thing you know some bounce will go against you and for the Hawks and they’ll be up 2-0 in the series, then 3-0, and then bye bye Cup.
    Sincerely, Sharks fan
    Good Luck – really.

  27. aarrgghhhh - May 31, 2010 at 10:01 PM

i have been a lifelong hockey fan. i know the original six. i also remember recently how chicago was getting 8,000 fans at a game. so cut us all a break there genius

  28. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 10:04 PM

I’m stuck in a quandary, obviously I want the Hawks to win the cup and never want them to lose. I also would like to see them only lose 4 games throughout the whole playoffs and sweep the west finals and cup finals. All this said, winning the cup in Chicago in game 5 would be an insane party! I’m not gonna say I want that cause we don’t need to lose a 3-0 lead or do anything stupid. I believe in Karma. I just don’t know what would be more awesome?

  29. aarrrggghhh - May 31, 2010 at 10:11 PM

why don’t you give the boston area a phone call and ask them what was more awesome?

  30. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 10:16 PM

aaargghhh, I can’t deny your points, but Blackhawks ownership and management was pathetic, all the games were blacked out so nobody ever saw them play, and they never got any good players. I understand the true passionate fans would stick through it but in a sport that we don’t grow up playing in this area why would anybody be inclined to watch? I can’t think of a single high school or college in Illinois that has hockey. Now I grew up playing basketball and baseball so despite jordan and the bulls disassembling and the cubs forever sucking I have roots to the sport so have stayed loyal. Now the the hawks clean house, and get a contract with comcast sports net, and start drafting studs and signing guys like Hossa and me being a sports fan period I can WATCH them on tv and they are good so new fans are created. Now maybe your original comment wasn’t a bandwagon bashing but it seemed like it and I think it’s true for most like me that once they started watching they fell in love with the sport. Yes I do watch other teams play besides the hawks now cause I do love it(which is more than I can say for baseball even though I want to see the Cubs win a series more than any other chicago team win a title). And of course as I said earlier, I imagine you life long hockey fans would be excited to see hockey move past Nascar and get in the conversation with the NBA, MLB, and NFL. On a side note, last years playoffs also hooked me on the sport as they were amazing. And the Olympics just put the icing on the cake! Even though Canada beat the good ole U S of A it was also amazing!

  31. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 10:18 PM

Thats exactly why I say I don’t want to mess around.

  32. willie - May 31, 2010 at 10:20 PM

i am glad i am not the only one to think that the sound sucks. i can not hear anything the doctor is saying. 5.1 sound is wasted on nbc.

  33. hawks fan - May 31, 2010 at 10:28 PM

ok, As we have established I am a new fan. Somebody explain the offsides penalty to me? From what I can tell the Forwards can’t cross the blue line ahead of the Puck? I am i right? please explain.

  34. archie - May 31, 2010 at 10:30 PM

Worst hockey audio of all time. I’ve actually mixed NHL Stanley Cup games. The AO doesn’t know how to balance the mix using proper compression and limiting. Everything is pumping up and down.
Absolutely the most amateurish thing I’ve ever heard. Embarrassing for all of us NABET members.

  35. shark fan - May 31, 2010 at 10:40 PM

No player from the opposing team can cross the offensive blueline ahead of the puck.

  36. Nsncy J. Bortolussi - May 31, 2010 at 10:42 PM

NBC – Your audio SUCKS!! Give it back to Versus – you can actually hear every word of the broadcast!! Don’t you listen to your own programming? The audio is off! This has happened for every game that your network handled throughout the playoffs. You are ruining the Stanley Cup Finals for hundreds of thousands of viewers! Get it fixed before the next NBC televised game or give the job back to cable – they can handle it!!!

  37. Donny Rivette - May 31, 2010 at 10:59 PM

Great stuff tonight, folks. Looking forward to Wednesday.

  38. Alfred Mancini - Jun 1, 2010 at 7:51 AM

In losing the Cup, I hope the Flyers don’t embarass the Eastern Division.

  39. Anonymous - Jun 1, 2010 at 6:09 PM

hawks suck so much. GO FLYERS

  40. kmac23 - Jun 2, 2010 at 10:40 PM

totally agree, the damn announcers are the most bias son of a bitches ever put on television. It is so obvious that they favor the hawks over the flyers…i assumed that by now they would have understood that they need totally neutral commentators in the biggest game of the season…

  41. Ryan - Jun 2, 2010 at 11:00 PM

It is clearly obvious that the announcers do NOT favor the Blackhawks, but the Flyers. This is proved because every intermission in Game 3 thus far, who has been interviewed and covered in depth? Flyers players. After Kane’s nice breakaway goal, the commentary was essentially: “Good pass ahead, good breakaway, good job.” A Flyers player scores a goal, and what happens? We have to hear the biography of how that Flyers player came to score that goal. Who touched it, who passed it, who passed it again, who almost lost the puck, who retreived it, who finally got it to the goal-scorer, and then we have to hear what that scoring player has been thinking about his approach to the game for the past 48 hours. Biased toward the Blackhawks? Please. The only thing missing is to hear one of these sorry “broadcasters” say “Let’s go down to the Blackhawks locker room now,” and for one of the other “broadcasters” to reply, “What the heck do we want to go down in there for??”

  42. Ryan - Jun 2, 2010 at 11:03 PM

Oh, and let us not forget that we get to hear that biography-of-a-Flyers-goal every time they show the replay of that goal at least a dozen times before every face-off for the rest of the period. That is, until the next Flyers goal for them to rave over.
