James - good series of posts on the Sharks' situation. Also, thanks for ending each post with a question, sounds like you want to engage with your readers, which is great and we hope to see.
Some huge decisions to make, and Marleau is maybe the biggest. After supplying 80% of the SJ offense in the series with the Blackhawks, it's not so cut and dry for the Marleau-underachiever storyline... the Sharks were a frustrating team in some ways to watch because the contributions came from different places in different games, but the variety in contribution seemed equally matched by a confounding variety of players totally disappearing as well.
What happened to Pavelski after Detroit? Where was Marleau before Chicago? Where was Heatley period? You'd think the Sharks would almost be better served by some consistent, slightly above average play compared to how mercurial some of their players seem to be.
The other interesting contrast for SJ is with Chicago - a lot of the Sharks players are pushing 30 or more, whereas Chicago's a lot younger. It was a breakthrough for San Jose to get to the Western finals this year, but this is already Chicago's second year in a row in the conference finals... doesn't bode well for SJ in the battle for Western Conference supremacy.
