NBC to carry Blackhawks-Sharks on Sunday, May 16 at 3PM ET

May 12, 2010, 9:45 PM EDT

NBC will cover Game 1 of the San Jose Sharks-Chicago Blackhawks Western Conference finals matchup in San Jose on Sunday, May 16 at 3 p.m. ET.

This should be a fantastic series as both teams are loaded with offensive and defensive talent. Personally, I can’t wait to see how this one pans out since both clubs bring so much to the table.

Expect a Live Game Chat and all the other fun, special stuff we love to throw at you during NBC coverage. We hope to see you at the chat and can’t wait for all the conference finals fun.

  1. Nick - May 13, 2010 at 2:01 AM

Way to screw over the West Coast some more NBC. Thought you would’ve got your fill of that during the Olympics…

  2. Ray - May 13, 2010 at 2:17 AM

The NHL Playoffs have been screwed up ever since someone from the NBA took over the league. How do they expect good ratings playing day games in May and June and fans never knowing what the game time is going to be? Prior to the NBA Moron taking over, everyone knew there would be 4 games every night during round 1, 2 games every night in round 2, and 1 game every night during round 3. During rounds 1 & 2, everyone knew there would be an early game and then a late game. With the NBA Moron in charge, all anyone knows is that there will be several games scheduled for a Saturday with a time TBD. Way to promote your sport, NBA Moron!!!!!!

  3. Moey Thornton Humble-MacBeth 3rd - May 13, 2010 at 2:46 AM

    Noon start west coast time????
    Weak.
Just go away NBC, please. Show some more golf. Let ESPN show the games again. AT NIGHT. WHEN ADULTS ARE AWAKE.

  4. Dexter Howard - May 13, 2010 at 5:46 AM

Please get rid of that archaic over dramatic nasaly dipshit Mike Emerick. We all know you can do better than him. Oh and why is Pierre McGuire so creepy? Do we really need an on ice reporter? Hope he learns his lesson with a hockey puck to the dome. Seriously though. An NBC broadcast of an NHL game is like watching with a bunch of yippity yappin douche bags talking and being very distracting. Just shut up, call the game. I am sick of Mike Emerick’s stories when he should be calling a fair and unbiased game.

  5. BleedTeal - May 13, 2010 at 6:02 AM

and you wonder why you get crappy ratings nbc… this is some horsesh*t

  6. Central Time Zone - May 13, 2010 at 7:27 AM

What are you silly left coast people out their complaining about? Be glad the game isn’t starting at noon Eastern Time…that would make it 10AM PT God forbiod if that happened…
Hey Moey Thornton Humble-MacBeth 3rd…here’s an idea…get your butt out of bed if you want to watch. Or are you too busy laying out Saturday night fooling around?
Dexter….if you’re that disgruntled….don’t watch the darn broadcast…you sound like an old Lady beefing and complaining…
BleedTeal…you Sharks Fans bitch about not getting any respect, then they put you on National TV and you’re still beefing…If NBC had decided to put the Eastern game on you’d be wailing and weeping as to why your team wasn’t chosen…

  7. 1964 - May 13, 2010 at 8:17 AM

Last time I checked, noon Eastern would be 9AM Pacific.

  8. Craig - May 13, 2010 at 8:35 AM

I don’t get the complaint. Noon too early to be over your hangover from Saturday night? Frankly I’m glad to not have a game starting at 8:30pm cst.

  9. Bingston - May 13, 2010 at 8:37 AM

Man…9AM.. that would be wayyy too early..I don’t think noon is a bad start time for teh West Coast..NBC probably should’ve started the game so it’d be 1PM out west. They don’t want to risk cutting into the Prime Time slot. If the game were to start at 4PM ET and go into OT…You’d have everyone complaining about Sunday night TV shows being disrupted..Not gonna happen…

  10. King - May 13, 2010 at 8:57 AM

I can’t believe the west coast people are complaining about a noon game. You can’t be awake by noon? We here in Chicago are thrilled(sarcasm)when west coast games don’t start until 9:30pm central time. I wouldn’t expect you to understand that some of us don’t like to stay up past midnight to watch west coast games. Save your whining for when the Blackhawks knock the Sharks of the playoffs!

  11. Matt - May 13, 2010 at 9:06 AM

Well the Cox Digital Guide says 11am/PDT But this of course has yet to be updated. I don’t care if it starts at 8am/PDT. I just want to see some Sharks hockey. I also don’t care what channel it’s on as long as the Sharks win.
plus the start date nor time has been confirmed… yet.
    GO SHARKS!!

  12. steve - May 13, 2010 at 9:52 AM

It does appear that we are looking at game one of the Western finals being on Sunday at 2PM Central Time, noon on the West Coast. While I would have to believe that starting a game in prime time would be better for ratings, prime time in Chicago isn’t prime time in California or vice versa. An 8:00 CDT start for a Sunday game would probably be best for all. It wouldn’t be too late in Chicago and 6:00 is fairly reasonable for folks in San Jose. Something to think about, but NBC loves those afternoon broadcasts.

  13. Cold Steel - May 13, 2010 at 12:23 PM

Who cares when the series starts, who isn’t ready to get it on? Go Hawks!

  14. Mike - May 13, 2010 at 12:28 PM

If it’s not the terrible announcers, it’s the terrible game times. NBC, if you don’t want hockey during prime time, why do you have the contract? Sunday Night Football is ok, why not Sunday Night Hockey?

  15. TD - May 13, 2010 at 12:42 PM

What is all the whining about? The NFL starts games at 10 A.M. Pacific time on Sundays. I never hear people complaining about that. Hockey fans, be glad we even get a game nationally televised. I’m from the overlooked timezone (Mountain) and 1:00 P.M. is perfect.

  16. upperbowler - May 13, 2010 at 1:03 PM

My problem is not with thestart time, but the start date. Sunday? Haven’t the Western teams had enough time off? Get it started, let the Sharks keep the advantage gained by closing out DET early while everyone plays tired.

  17. BleedTealBiteRed - May 13, 2010 at 1:07 PM

This is ridiculous. Who’s the dips**t that:
    A. Schedules the playoff games *OVER* each other??
    B. Schedules the WESTERN conference FINALS games at NOON PST in *MAY*???
Why are the West coast people bitching? BECAUSE IT’S THE WESTERN FRIGGING CONFERENCE FINALS, moron. These are OUR TEAMS and we WANT TO SEE IT LIVE, not some crappy summary on the 5:00 newscast.
Whomever is making the decision to cut out the largest viewing audience the western franchise has seen in years (not by me, these are the numbers from CSN), is a total freaking moron.
GO SHARKS! (Take it downtown, Pavelski!!!!!!)

  18. LaceEmUpKate - May 13, 2010 at 1:10 PM

WHO CARES WHAT TIME THE GAME IS LIVE OR TELEVISED!!!! the players have to be mentally and physically ready whether it is 9am, Noon or 3pm. All you have to do as fans is put your jersey/sweater on, bring your sorry a$$ to the living room couch and turn on the tv. OR some of you have to commute for 2.5 hrs down to san jose, or get to the train station 3hrs before game time, get on a skanky bus, walk 2 miles to The Tank all while taunting ‘Hawks fans. Sheesh, sounds exhausting… STFU! GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSES and be grateful (1) that the Sharks are this far in the playoff (thank you, Hockey Gods and Lord Stanley), (2) that you don’t have to sell your children for a ticket since you can watch alongside your over-sugared hyperactive little brats now that it is on tv, and (3) that I’m not talking to you in person right now cuz I should smack the living daylights outta you for whining in the first place!! You get up earlier for work, this should be no different.

  19. BleedTealBiteRed - May 13, 2010 at 1:13 PM

Speak for yourself. I’m going to the tank.
That said, who’s the dips**t that:

  20. AddicaPongo - May 13, 2010 at 1:51 PM

BleedTealBiteRed….with all due respect…what the heck are you talking about when you say.. “we WANT TO SEE IT LIVE, not some crappy summary on the 5:00 newscast….”Turn you frickin TV on at Noon PT this Sunday and you’ll see it LIVE…you can’t possibly be that nutty can you?
“cut out the largest viewing audience the western franchise has seen in years…”
    Wait…wait……wait…WHAT?!?
I think NBC has a little larger viewing audience in California than Comcast does…Comcast talks out of their rear end..
You need to simmer down and get a grip Dude. It’s good to see the Sharks doing well, but one way or another you’ll see them…BTW expect the games in Chicago next week to start 5:30 PM PT …Can’t help that the West Coast is hours behind the rest of the nation…be glad you’re team isn’t in Hawaii…
Come on in off the ledge Pal…you’ll be alright…

  21. jeremy (OSF) - May 13, 2010 at 2:10 PM

AHHHH Sunday at noon SUCKS for bay area folk.
Bay 2 Breakers race is Sunday from 7am – around noon or whenever you feel like stop drinking.
blah. selling my tickets to go to the race and then watch first period a little delayed. so weak. 5pm start time would have been just fine!

  22. the man - May 13, 2010 at 2:43 PM

you’re selling your sharks tickets for the bay to breakers? omg, u suck!

  23. Knuckles Barton - May 13, 2010 at 2:48 PM

Of course you’re dismayed jeremy…after all who wants to miss out on the tortilla toss?

  24. Alison - May 13, 2010 at 3:36 PM

Not all of us have cushy desk jobs where we get the weekend off. I’ll be at work the entire game western conference western time

  25. HZ82 - May 13, 2010 at 4:13 PM

“Why are the West coast people bitching? BECAUSE IT’S THE WESTERN FRIGGING CONFERENCE FINALS, moron. These are OUR TEAMS and we WANT TO SEE IT LIVE”
Ok, well Chicago is not geographically west yet is in the Western Conference finals, so until they actually ONLY have Western State/Time zone teams in the Western Conference, that argument makes no sense.
And I don’t understand the hoopla? The game starts at NOON. What is the problem? Can’t wake up that “early”???
    Sheesh.

  26. SJ27 RAD - May 13, 2010 at 4:20 PM

Honestly the game time would be fine but your commentators just dont do it. I think the home team should have their commentators and pxp analyst on the broadcast even if it is on NBC. I think that would be a start to fixing this broken thing.

  27. tom - May 13, 2010 at 4:32 PM

    suck a dick fagboy

  28. n2y2 - May 13, 2010 at 4:45 PM

Typical Eastcoasters posting above. Keep telling us out here that we are lucky that it doesn’t start at 9am local time.
Did you all fail to realize that the game is being played in San Jose? But all-ya-all seem to think that the game should be scheduled for your convenience rather than for the benefit of the team (and its fans) that earned the home-ice advantage.
This is the WESTERN Conference finals. It should be played in the prime hours for the Western region. If you can’t handle staying up late, please stick to the Eastern Conference finals.

  29. Hawks Fan - May 13, 2010 at 4:49 PM

I agree with getting rid of Mike Emerick and Pierre McGuire, especially Pierre. The reflection off his head is staggering on a plasma. The Pat Foley / Eddie O duo is by far one of the best ever. Plus they know hockey better than most of the other lame play by play guys. If NBC insists on putting us through this agony, we’ll watch the picture but listen to WGN.

  30. sandy - May 14, 2010 at 3:36 PM

I agree with every fan in the West! I’m so tired of everything being geared for and scheduled for the East. We definitely deserve more respect….. and I’m just glad that we at least won’t have to look at Mr. Sydney Crosby’s face for the rest of THIS season ! Every Sunday morning it was either S.Crosby…. or Ovejkin. And now during the playoffs we get lousy time schedules. The NHL needs to give us our fair due ! We have the BEST fans here in San Jose !

  31. Hockeymom - May 19, 2010 at 12:49 PM

The commentary from Mike Emerick and Pierre McGuire is very biased, favoring the Blackhawks. You can TELL that they favor Chicago. Should that be the case? Why don’t they tell us as much about the San Jose team, so, as members of the media, they can at least APPEAR unbiased. Also, these guys really should stick to commentating the game, as there is plenty of action without their inane stories. I have thought about turning the radio on for the local coverage of the game, but I don’t think that it would match with the TV, with the commercials and all. So commentators, please get a clue and try to be FAIR!!! (As for the game times, I would wake up at 4:00 am to see hockey, hungover or not!)
