Salo himself pondered retirement during the painful recovery process from a ruptured Achilles tendon. In many ways, Salo has been the Wile E. Coyote of hockey players, stumbling through injuries that have been random, painful and … yes, a bit comical (see: testicle, ruptured left). [...]

Actually that was not Zednik that was Malarchuk. Zednik was attended to by the panthers' doctor, and his artery was not severed, just cut. Malarchuk's however was and the Buffalo doctor had to skate onto the ice and then manually pinch it shut. Malarchuk was at his goal he couldn't skate to the doctor (obviously, if you watch the video, or sports science. He was losing blood that at a rate of 3 minutes he would be dead.) so he had to come to him. Zednik was skating. He held it himself until he skated to the bench where the doctor took over.
Just wanted to clarify haha

Zednik didn't actually have to be strangled, but instead, the Sabres' team doctor Les Bisson reached into Zednik's neck and manually pinched his carotid artery shut. After everything was finished, his decision to do so was hailed as saving Zednik's life.
I had tickets to that game, but didn't go. Glad I didn't.
Also, both Malarchuk and Zednik not only both nearly bled to death on TV, but both incidents happened in Buffalo.
