Bruins lead series 3-2

The Flyers needed overtime to
stay alive in their series against the Bruins in Game 4, but they would
need just one goal and and a solid overall effort to send the series
back to Philadelphia for a Game 6. Ville Leino played perhaps his best
game of the playoffs, opening the scoring in the first period for the
Flyers before being the catalyst on Scott Hartnell’s goal in the second
period.

Leino’s effort on the shift that led up to Hartnell’s
goal, giving the Flyers a 2-0 lead, was incredibly important for his
team after Brian Boucher left with what appeared to be a fairly serious
knee injury just four minutes into the second period. The goal kept the
momentum going for Philadelphia, as Michael Leighton stopped all 14
shots he faced in relief. Simon Gagne, who returned earlier than expected from a broken toe, scored the final two goals of the game and now has three tallies in his two games back.

Boucher has temporarily been diagnosed
with a knee sprain, although further testing will occur tomorrow after
the swelling goes down. I’m anticipating a MRI, one that might reveal a
fairly serious injury. The way Boucher’s leg was twisted underneath him,
and his immediate reaction, things aren’t looking good for the
goaltender that has played so admirably for the Flyers in the
postseason.

The Bruins, meanwhile, played with zero emotion until
they were staring up at a 4-0 deficit and the home crowd showed even
less enthusiasm in getting their team back in the game. I didn’t see
this, but some reports from those at the game stated that Bruins fans
were throwing beer in the third period, as the Flyers dominated play.
The Bruins finally came alive late in the game yet in the wrong ways,
taking several bad penalties that negated any comeback they hoped to
make.

The series now heads back to Philadelphia for an all
important Game 6, where the Flyers will draw upon what is sure to be an
electric crowd as they hope to secure the comeback.
