Bloggers find logos for Edmonton Oilers’ new AHL team, the OKC Barons

Long before I ever contemplated writing about hockey, I went to an Oklahoma City Blazers hockey game. It was a fantastic experience as the hockey was fun and violent (and the opposing team’s goalie gave us the finger! Hooray!). While I couldn’t imagine professional sports coming to that area, I left impressed by the veracity of the crowds. (Of course, a few years later, the city would get a test run with the NBA’s Hornets and now is home to the blandly named Thunder.) So, naturally, when I hear anything about pucks in the unlikely land of Oklahoma I cannot help but smile. Derek Zona of Copper & Blue unearthed some logos (with help from Oilfield Hockey) of what will be the Edmonton Oilers new AHL affiliate: the Oklahoma City Barons.

High marks for: a) having a regionally appropriate mascot name, b) tying the team name into the Oilers themselves and c) generally making it all ultra-cool. Bravo. Here’s the logos Zona found from

Very cool, right? Which one is your favorite of the three? I’m particularly fond of the first one, although the second one is quite spiffy too. (Thanks again to Copper & Blue, Oilfield Hockey and tess2.upto.gov.)
