Staal, Guerin game-time decisions for tonight

May 6, 2010, 10:30 AM EST

Jordan Staal and Bill Guerin are both likely to be game-time
decisions tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, although it appears
that Staal is much closer to returning.

When he does return, he’ll use the same skates he was wearing
when he was was cut by P.K Subban’s skate blade, which he says makes
skating much easier with the injury. Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh
Post-Gazzette, has this quote from Staal on what happened immediately
after the hit.

“I went to the bench. I looked down. It wasn’t looking good. So I
went to the [dressing] room and took the skate off. I knew it wasn’t
just a cut. I went straight to the hospital, had a little surgery, went
home and had a good sleep.”

While Dan Bylsma has maintained that Staal was day-to-day all along,
it seems that Staal did surprise them when he returned to the ice as
soon as he did.

All I know is I will never rely on reports from the “reputable” TSN. This is twice in two years (Gonchar last year) that they reported a player to be out for the remainder of the playoffs only to have them come back. There should be accountability in the media, not such a rush to break a story that misinformation is reported.
