Totally agree with you. As a fan of the Ducks whose players have been on the receiving end of the longest suspensions (Pronger and Wisniewski, 8 games each), Campbell is clear evidence that rules are made to be broken. A rule should be a rule, whether intentions are there or not, whether a player is a repeat offender or not and whether a player is racing for the puck or not. Campbell's actions set another bad example for fans. I guess we'll have to wait until the latter part of next year's regular season when this becomes an issue yet again and such hits will be penalized! This is totally frustrating and unfair to other players and teams.

Oh please...it was a mirror image of the Ovechkin "shove" on Campbell. It makes the NHL look worse than NASCAR in its consistently arbitrary rulings. I'm not a fan of either team, just a hockey fan that would like to see some Colin Campbell and the rest of the idiots in Toronto replaced with a committee of hockey people who can make informed and consistent decisions. This one was wrong. Now we'll have to listen to Commissioner Bettman defend another one of Colie's blunders. Its simply embarrassing to the sport.

Maybe it was not called checking from behind because it was not a check? I could barely call it a shove. It was an unfortunate circumstance, but in most scenarios, that type of a push would have resulted in absolutely nothing; Hamhuis was just caught at exactly the wrong time, and was off balance. You cannot legislate that out of the game. I thought the 5-minute penalty was overkill.
