The Devils haven’t forgotten how to score. The forwards are just too busy helping the defense. The way Devils played in the playoffs is the way they played the last few months of the season, that is, low scoring and being unable to hold leads and finish teams off. Lou has failed to replace defensemen like Stevens, Niedermayer, Daneyko, and Rafalski. He also lost forward like Gionta, Gomez, and Madden. This is were the Dvils problem begins.
Among solving the issues mentions above he should get a young goaltender that the team can count on long term and let Brodeur spend the next few seasons mentoring and splitting up the workload.

There was nothing wrong with getting Kovalchuk. However, this team hasn’t been the same since losing Stevens, Daneyko, Niedermayer and Rafalski. They most need a scary defenseman. No reason to give up on Marty — you never trade the franchise. And someone is missing in the locker room.

Is it time for the Devils to part company with the man who carried them to three Stanley Cups and holds most of the NHL's goaltending records?

Forgive me, but that is quite possibly one of the stupidest things I've ever read. The Devils' main problem is that they've forgotten how to score. That is not Broudeur's fault. In fact, Marty's goal-keeping was the only thing that kept the Devils in this series to begin with.

Maybe it is time to stop playing Brodeur 70+ games every year. Leading the league in games played at ages 34, 35 and 37 (and 31, 29 and 26).
The last five goalies to lead the league in games played:
2010 Brodeur (77 games): out in round one.
2009 Kiprusoff (76 games): out in round one.
2008 Nabokov/Brodeur (77 games): round two/round one. Note that Kiprusoff and Miller had 76 games, out in round one, missed playoffs.
2007 Brodeur (78 games): out in round two.
2006 Luongo (75 games): missed playoffs.
Hmmm…doesn’t look like having a “workhorse” pays off very often.

Wow, I’m a Flyers fan and I think this article is retarded. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I wish they’d ship him far away (or to the Flyers) but why would you trade the guy who set the all time wins record, shutout record, (insert any of a number of names) record, and won you 3 Cups??? There’s rebuilding, and then there’s disgracing the face of your franchise for draft picks (Thanks Eagles).
That being said, Good Night NY. Flyers eliminated both teams in your market. Bring on the Canadiens!(Please)

The Devils play their system as well as any team. They won 3 cups using it, so no one can argue with history. But, it is a different league, different rules and different required skill sets. Systems win a lot of regular season games, but the playoffs now seem to tilt based on the efforts of big time players. The Devils thought they had it in Kovalchuk. It did not work. Perhaps Lemaire was not the right guy to come back. and run the team. Lou is a very strong willed man, who has done an incredible job. Perhaps, though, he needs to take 3 steps back and ask himself if his rigorous adherence to a system and a “type” of coach needs some refinement. Moving the most successful goalie in league history is not the sole answer.

Hate to say it, but lou was the problem this year. it was him that faild to land the D-man this team needed, it was him that signed Lemaire to coach, and then failed to manage him, it was him that traded for Kovalchuk.
did anyone else realize that before January when the Devils were something like 35 and 11 they were playing their best hockey this season, and that was when they had all of the injuries? they had a stocked roster of AHL players and were taking the NHL by storm.
the farm system is solid, and next season looks good, providing they add a D-man that could help the young guys comming up next year.
and trading Broudeur? I’ve never read anything that Joe Yerdon has written before, and after reading this article I’m not about to start. He obviously does not know anything about the Devils or hockey for that matter.

ABSOLUTELY this is crazy talk! 3 Stanley Cups doesn’t guarantee his spot on the team until HE decides its time to call it a day?
At almost 38, he is still an elite goaltender. The problem in Jersey is SCORING SCORING SCORING and the SYSTEM SYSTEM SYSTEM.

That is just crazy talk. Sort of reminds me of the years before the Red Wings won the Cup with Stevie Y.
If you are NOT scoring… it is NOT the goalie’s fault and to blame him for the team’s loss is crazy. I do agree he is getting older but don’t try and ship him and roll the dice.
It is time to step away from the problem and to rethink the situation.
