Of course he meant to. The game before he did the same thing, passing hair from the kid without stopping. Just more head games from the Caps. He knows the Habs are righ there in the tunnel. Just another example of trash vs class, like his momentous celebrations of the cinchiest of goals. Think Sidney Crosby would ever do something like that to a little kid?

Personally I know that Canadians are a little tougher than that. The kid would be in trouble if he went home to complain to his Dad that Ovechkin had given him an ice spray. Move on move on, nothing to see here.

One thing I should have originally done was to give more opinion on the video, as we did this morning. And yes, we do try to reportthe news and give our take analysis of it. Is this ‘news’? Not exactly. But it was something interesting that was being talked about by nearly every one I follow on twitter. Therefore, let’s put it up, see what the reader’s thoughts might be.
And yes, the original title was wrong to use and perhaps misleading. Did I make this into news? I doubt it. It was going to be talked aboutand linked to and mentioned in many other places. It’s on Puck Daddy this morning. Are they wrong for bringing it up?
I think more substance to the post would have solved these issues. It’s a lesson you learn and move on.

I appreciate you removing your headline from last night. That shows a good level of maturity and a recognition that it was a bit over the top.
At the risk of being your journalism professor, your job should be to report the news and draw conclusions from known facts (remember that part about corroborating sources?).
I haven’t seen an interview with OV, and I haven’t seen an interview with the kid, so I don’t know what either was thinking or thinks now. But by linking to a you tube video with a clear, inflammatory (if not grammatically incorrect) title, and then twittering about it, you may have helped create the news. That’s not your job.
I’m a Caps fan and, therefore biased, but I suspect the most likely story here is that OV had no idea the kid was there. He does this every game. In addition, if I was that kid, getting sprayed by Alex Ovechkin would be freakin’ way cool.

You can complain about Ovechkin for some things, but this isn’t one of them. Nobody cares about trivia like this. Totally stupid to even raise it.

It was a stupid thing to do whether he did it on purpose or not. If he meant to do it as a sign of disrespect, then he’s simply a terrible person. If he meant to do it good naturedly, then his stoic reaction afterward was bizarre. but intentions aside, he shouldn’t have been skating that fast in the first place. He could have seriously hurt that child if he lost his edge.
It doesn’t matter though, because his supporters will excuse or ignore his behavior no matter what he does, just like they always do. I fear he’s going to have to end careers or kill a person before he really gets called on anything by the NHL.

I don’t see why the media is making a big deal out of a stupid clip, kids are not supposed to be on the ice anyway during pre-game warm-up or at the time the game is about to start ( which I think it’s the case !!!!!!! ).

I doubt he meant to, it just doesn’t make any sense. Hopefully he apologized or made a gesture to the kid, as there is a 0.0% chance he didn’t know what he had (mistakenly) done.

Yeah, because that’s what Alex Ovechkin does. It was probably the thrill of a lifetime for that kid. Sounds like something made of nothing, as usual.
