He only left his feet after contact and there was no forearm thrown. He is 6’6″ tall hitting somebody at approx 5’11″ his arm rest at forehead level of a leaning over skater who totally had his head down and should have had it up. It’s hockey not soccer.
Leopold would probably tell you himself he should have had his head up.

I’m a huge Pittsburgh Fan, and initially was horrified at the site of this hit, there are some definite differences between this hit and Cooke’s hit on Savard. The difference to me is that this hit is really close to charging, it looks like he takes 3 or 4 strides into the hit (if I rmember correctly, 4 strides is charging) and it looks like he leaves his feet. I guess the league decided it was not charging, then it probably doesn’t get any closer. the pens just need to draw from their experiences with the Flyers, respond to this stuff if necessary, but mostly concerntrate on just beating them on the scoreboard, so far so good.

Clean hit, Leopold was looking down and Sutton took advantage of that. Sutton’s a big D man, and it’s his job to be physical, to hit and seperate the player from the puck. That’s what he did. Anonymous, what Crosby was doing is what you’re supposed to do. His teammate got leveled and he was defending his player. Hockey is a physical sport, you don’t like the hits? Go watch baseball.

Clean hit. as an unbias observer (sharks fan… so what do I care right?) Sutton had an oppurtunity to paste the guy and he did. If you call it dirty, your either a) one who thinks fights don’t belong in the NHL b) want to see the NHL turn pansy like the NFL c) are of pitts fan.
Seriously, its a violent sport folks. your guy gets hit, my guy gets hit… the game goes on. You want to try and rush around a defender, best realize your speed adds to the energy – e=mc2. This is playoffs for gods sake. I recall in the 80′s and early 90′s watching Philly lay people out constantly. Did they win cups? er. no! but it was hella fun to watch and I loved it. (I was a Seals fan then…) These guys are armored and padded, faster skates, smoother ice and no enforcers. crap happens. get over it. maybe you should lobby your GM to get a 6’4″ 245. The man is paid to stop offensive players from getting past. personally. now I really get my dander up, give that guy a raise. He’s worth morth than the 10 bazillion Malkin is getting. At least crosby mucks.

Borderline dirty, but Leopold had his head down- plain and simple. And for ANY Penguins fans to question this hit, may we remind you about Matt Cooke?? Marc Savard still isn’t the same. And what was Crosby doing, coming to Leopold’s defense- that was laughable…….

If the league does not suspend sutton, then they are giving the penguins the greenlight to leave they’re feet with an elbow and line up the senators. Only the league will be to blame if this series gets out of hand. They could send a message to the league with a one game suspension, This type of head injury was so important that they changed the rules during an active regular season, have they fogotten the sentiment on this matter?

I’m once again ashamed of how andy plays his game, it’s one thing to “play on the edge”, but how many times will it take the league to figure out his method of breaking up a play with disregard for anyone’s life or livelyhood will result in someone getting paralized, whould you want to live the rest of your life knowing you made someone a quadriplegic?

Dirty hit all the way..no question..sutton came from Georgia with that elbow with intent to injure…sutton is a dirty player plain and simple…hope he blows his knees out

I just don’t understand how you can call that a clean hit. His elbow clearly made contact with Leopold’s temple. Are we saying that was acceptable? I feel like everybody’s taking crazy pills to suggest that was a clean hit.

He left his feet and led with the forearm…he should have been penalized, ejected, and subsequently suspended.
