The Masterton Trophy nominees update

Thanks to James Mirtle over at the Globe and Mail, we have a running tally over each team’s nominee for the Masterton Trophy, given to the player who displays “qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.” Here are the nominees that we have so far:

Atlanta: Jim Slater
Boston: Mark Recchi
Buffalo:
Calgary: Craig Conroy
Carolina: Rod Brind’Amour
Chicago: Brent Sopel
Colorado: Matt Hendricks
Columbus: Jared Boll
Dallas:
Detroit: Tomas Holmstrom

Minnesota: Guillaume Latendresse
Montreal: Jaroslav Halak
Nashville: Joel Ward
New Jersey: Patrik Elias

Philadelphia: Mike Leighton
Phoenix: Vernon Fiddler
Pittsburgh: Bill Guerin
San Jose: Jed Ortmeyer
St. Louis: Erik Johnson
Tampa Bay: Kurtis Foster
Toronto: Jonas Gustavsson
Vancouver: Henrik Sedin
Washington: Jose Theodore

If anyone other than David Booth wins, I’ll get a bit angry. But that’s just me.

[Update: This is what happens when you write a post ahead of time, then don’t check to see what you wrote before publishing with the updated nominees. David Booth wasn’t nominated by Florida, which is a bit surprising to me.]

With Booth not a nominee, there’s pretty much no question that Jose Theodore (who is nominated) would be the favorite for the award. Heck, he was a favorite for the award anyway.

The award is voted upon by the Professional Hockey Writer’s Association.

We’ll update this list as the final nominees are announced.
