When Edler signed his extension, he was expected to develop into a 1-3 Dman. His development has stunted a bit this year and I'm not sure if they would have extended him for so long and at so much if they knew how he was going to be playing now. Bieksa and Salo are both injury prone (I think Salo was extended by Nonis, not Gillis, however). Andrew Alberts, though, is looking like a Gillis blunder.
On D the Canucks are really paying for Luc Bourdon's sad, untimely passing. Without him, they just don't have any NHL ready youth on entry level deals in the system. They have to overpay for vets for a couple more years until their young D prospects are closer to stepping in.
Good job on extending Kesler, though. He's the type of player all Stanley Cup winning teams seem to have. Who knows, maybe NBC will actually decide to put this exciting solid team on the game of the week sometime instead of bloated corpses like the Rangers and the Bruins.
