The hit or push depending on your point of view was clearly boarding as defined by the NHL rule book an action which causes an opposing player to be thrown violently into the boards (sorry I can't give you the reference) in this case Campbell went head first and was injured which was probably the reason the penalty was a major. on another issue it doesn't matter who it was who made the hit the penalties should all be called the same just because Ovechkin is one of the best players in the league should not affect the way the hit is called

The check was violent, but Campbell was not "head first" into the boards, he was sideways to the boards. It definitely warrented a penalty and even after it was made a major I said, well maybe it was a major. But when they kicked Ovechkin out of the game? I thought that was too much. Do we want hockey to be a game where dudes are skating around in pink leotards? Game of the Week and you kick your best player out for being aggressive and playing all out. You're not gonna sell hockey that way.

Yes show the video not just one frame. Even the 1 frame you can tell he is angled. Look at the skates of each player. You can tell what direction they are facing!

When Ovechkin pushed Campbell, Campbell was sideways to him. Are you intentionally picking up one frame instead of posting YouTube video?

It depends on the angle you see it from, but even from that angle you can still clearly see the 1 on Campbell's jersey.
From this angle the push/hit looks to come more from the side.
