I always yell “Stars” during the anthem and stand up to clap when the Stars honor all servicemen in the arena.
It’s a Stars tradition that will never go away and it doesn’t mean we hate the US.

In Washington DC, they also yell “Red”… No one I know has ever heard a complaint about it. Yep, in the nation’s capitol, barely 2 decades after the end of the Cold War. “Stars” is nothing compared to some of the other anthem traditions.
People love to whine and get offended, and this impulse is not restricted to any profession or age group. Don’t like it, don’t do it is definitely the way to go.

The Carolina Hurricanes fans have Stars fans beat in terms of arguably disrespectful anthem displays. First they all yell “Jussi!” during the first line’s “Can you see” in honor of Jussi Jokinen. Then everybody yells “RED” with “the rocket’s red glare” and lately there have been a small contingent of fans trying to interject “Gleason” for “Gleaming” (“Jussi” may be clever, but this Gleason/Gleaming thing is just plain stupid, are we going to see if we can fit every name on the roster into the anthem?)
