Kane, Shubert out: Could Chelios be on his way to NHL?

Some tough news today for the Atlanta Thrashers, who will have to try
and make the playoffs without Evander Kane for at least the next three
weeks. Kane had a CT scan today that confirmed he has a fractured left
foot. On top of that, defenseman Cristoph Shubert is out three to five
weeks with a pulled muscle in his hip.

The injuries will most
likely hinder the Thrashers too much as they attempt to make the
playoffs despite trading away Ilya Kovalchuk.

With Shubert out for
that length of time, Atlanta could possibly call up a defenseman from
the AHL. One possibility is recently acquired Ivan Vishnevkskiy, but the
team could also call upon Chris Chelios to make a triumphant return to
the NHL.

The fact that the team would have choose between a 48
year old and a 22 year old defenseman to call up seriously astounds me. I
know I would pay much more attention to the Thrashers if Chelios were
playing.

And how ironic is it that Chelios could get called up to
replace a player that hurt his hip? Get it? Because he’s old!!
